I have only done Thanks Giving twice (being British etc) but I made fresh cranberry sauce both times. Out of 8 adults, dh and I were the only ones to eat any of it. The others all had the cranberry jelly stuff from a can. Which do you prefer?

(Mine was delish!!!)

real homemade or none at all

i voted other, even though i try not to ever vote other!
i don't like the gelled can type. i like homemade, but its often too tart for some people. this year we're getting a jar that has the consistency of homemade, but not that gel goo in the can i hate. its fresh and in the refrigerated section at trader joes.
heres an article on storebought- http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...7/FD138970.DTL

I make homemade, with oranges, fresh ginger and cranberries!

I have made and it is actually pretty good, raspberry jello and cranberry sauce from a can. Don't laugh, it ain't half bad- goes good with the turkey.

I don't like cranberry sauce, but I always make it from scratch for those that do. The canned stuff is extra nasty (IMO)

Homemade, of course! It's so easy to do. I infuse mine with spices & earl grey tea-it's divine!

I never had cranberry sauce until I made it myself. The jello stuff from the can is beyond gross.

see maybe i am weird because i dont like homemade cranberry sauce, but LOVE LOVE canned. (i should add that this is the only thing i like canned haha)
homemade is too liquidy for me and not sweet enough.. and i dont like actual cranberry chunks in them. the canned stuff is perfect consistency for slicing and putting on the fork with a piece of turkey. yum!

I voted other because they are both nasty to me.

But I do like cranberry juice and vodka in a nicely chilled glass.

embarrassed to say, i lOVE the canned jelly kind.

idk why, but even though we were kinda poor growing up we'd always buy the stuff in a can, put it out, and nobody would eat it. But we still bought it every year.

this year i am going to attempt to make my own for the first time.

I love the canned stuff and I'm not even embarrassed about it. I have issues with the skins in homemade cranberry sauce, otherwise it would be fine.

A few years ago I would have said canned. Then one day I found a simple recipe to make my own and it is absolutely amazing stuff!!! i WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK!

I have to vote other because we always have both! Growing up we had the canned kind, so it's sort of sentimental to include that now. But I much prefer homemade as an adult, so I make my own, too.

Love, love, love the canned stuff but I have never ever had homemade. We always have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at someone else's house (usually my mom) and it has never come up. I don't eat cranberry sauce at any other time of year.

I guess I didn't even think about it being better homemade but it makes total sense although I might have issues with skins as a pp mentioned.

I love making my own with orange rind and juice....but I have to mention that I saw on Paula Deen today them taking the canned kind, slicing it, freezing it, breading it and......you guessed it, FRIED IT! Now I will certainly eat the canned kind when it's there and not worth making my own, but fried........yowza not for me!

I make my own. I usually add mandarin oranges to it after it has chilled.

This year I am considering making this recipe.

Mmmmm, love the canned jelly kind. I sometimes eat it right out of the can, with a spoon. In secret, because my 3.5-year-old loves it, too, and if he sees it, I'll have to share. Actually, I do share, but reluctantly.

I don't like my cranberry sauce to have chunks of anything in it, even cranberries. Jelly all the way.
