So, I'm just curious...

I know a lot of moms sell stuff through etsy and ebay. But does anyone use zencart or oscommerce or similar shopping carts and host their own sales?

And what kind of stuff do you guys sell?

Me! I started with "Lite Commerce" which is the scaled down version of OS Commerce. I then used Zen Cart for almost a year. We are now using Core Commerce.

I know Carrin uses the same software I do (actually she has the host-your-own version known as "Digishop"). Her website is www.downtoearthtoys.com

So far I'm using zencart... It's definitely different, but I like that it's free.

Which do you prefer so far???

I suppose ultimately it depends on what you are doing, the volume of orders, whether you have someone to customize your template, etc. but ultimately Zen Cart was better than Lite Commerce (and the free thing was nice) but Core Commerce is much nicer than Zen Cart (of course you pay for that).

I customized my own template, so that was pretty easy. I'm fairly web savvy... When it comes to design anyways.

That's a handy set of skills to have When we were running Zen we bought like a $180 template, DH worked with it and it looked pretty decent. Ultimately though, Zen was too hard to use for the volume of orders we were running through it and it didn't have some of the features I really needed to streamline my operations.
