PBS in 1985?

I'm trying to find out what a standard PBS schedule was in 1985 {or within a few years of that} for children's programing. Can anyone help?

Trying to do a paper comparing it to today's schedule. I know when I was a toddler in 86 Sesame Street was on twice a day, but I don't remember anything else.

Interesting question. I remember watching Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and The Electric Company. Other than that, I don't personally recall other shows. Other than those 3 shows, PBS was usually my last choice for a channel to watch.

I found this wiki article and it states that PBS Kids brand wasn't started until 1993. From there I found the PBS Kids article and although it doesn't give what year, it does list current shows and former shows.

Correction: the PBS Kids article does have a list of children's shows that predate the PBS Kids brand.

Hope that helps. I'm interested if you ever do find the schedule...

So far all I've found is that it would have contained these shows:

Mr. Rogers
Reading Rainbow
Sesame Street
The Electric Company
and possibly Polka Dot Door

What I'm really trying to find is a schedule - trying to both compare shows and length of viewing time. No such luck yet really.

Those are the shows I personally remember, minus Polka Dot Door. I think all of them were 30 minutes each. I wish I could help with the schedule! Your paper sounds fascinating. Good luck!

The director is Cyndy Scheibe. The archive itself might not be of any explicit help, but she may know the answer to your question.

Was Romper Room on PBS? How about Capt. Kangaroo? I remember a show from the late '80s/early '90s called "Square One TV" that I'm pretty sure was on PBS.

Seems fairly easy to check, if you have resources available to you. I would check newspaper archives for a 24-month period in the decades that interest you and look for their television listings. Pick the 2nd or 3rd week of every month, and select 2 mid-week days and Saturday and Sundays.

If the newspaper on-line databases aren't accessible, do you have a resource library with a microfiche collection nearby?

check your local station

Their office, that is, call the public information dept. They have (had?) little magazine/guides each month. I have a couple here from the 70s (my mother worked for them and I was in a few of them).

This! A good reference librarian can help you.
