5.5 months PP, still having tailbone pain...

I've been meaning to post here for awhile.

When I was in labor with my DD, I had super sporadic contractions for the first 8 hours or so, then took a long walk which led to the contractions immediately going to 2 min apart, and she was born 6 hours later. I had contractions in what felt like my entire lower body. My Bradley teacher said perhaps she was not in a good position since my contractions would go from 11 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart to 8 minutes to 4, etc etc.

After the birth, my tailbone was so sore, to the point where I didn't want to sit for weeks. It's gotten better, but if I sit for awhile, or sit in a certain way so as to put pressure on my tailbone, it still REALLY hurts.

I can't see a chiropractor as my insurance doesn't cover it and it is about $40-50 a session without insurance. Is there anything I can do on my own to help the pain? Do you think I could've fractured something (I've heard of that little piece at the end of the tailbone breaking off in labor...eek)? Do you think this could cause a problem during my next delivery (which hopefully will be 2 or 3 years away)?

I can't help but think that you'd find it well worth it to find the $$ for at least one chiro visit...could work wonders.

I have been adjusted once since the birth, and didn't have the tailbone pain for awhile, but it still came back. I was hoping there was something I could do on my own but thanks for the rec.

I think my tailbone pain stems from birthing my 10 lb 5 oz baby who was born posterior presentation. My tailbone still hurts occasionally at 17 months PP. I do pelvic tilts when I am having the pain and it helps for that situation. I really need to visit a chiropractor too. I have not been in a while.

I've managed to find several chiropractors that charge $20 for walk ins, but I had to do a bit of calling around. Maybe one will do it for cheaper than $40-$50?

Yoga, along with chiropractic care, has helped my tailbone pain. If we decide to have another I think I'll work with a yoga therapist prior to TTC in hopes of preventing some of the problems/pain I had with DD.

I had the same problem and had to go the chiro a few times to get it back in line. It was definitely worth it though to not be in pain! Mine was a result of my dd being positioned very poorly along with me probably having some alignment problems before I had her as well that were left untreated. Do you think insurance might cover it if your regular doctor prescribed it? You may be able to petition them or something.

There isn't really a way to "check" but I had severe tailbone pain after my second daughter was born and was told "she" probably fractured or broke it during delivery. I remember the pain and inconvience it caused for months, but don't remember how, when, or why it ended (sorry) but just wanted to say that yes, it could be broken

Also wanted to say that my next 2 births were fine, no problems with my tailbone

I slept on a boppy for more than a month after DD was born. Taking the pressure off it? It took a long, long time for my tailbone to stop aching. DD was also positioned poorly, posterior and born asynclitic.

It was all right for awhile but it's restarted for me again now, later in this pregnancy. MW says it's pressure from baby, but man, it's horrible when I have a contraction. You have my sympathies...I know how you feel.

I've been seeing a chiro throughout this pregnancy. While DD2 is *perfectly* positioned, the adjustments haven't helped my tailbone pain. The only thing that does is sleeping on a boppy.

I have Tricare. It was hard enough to get them to cover my birth center birth, let alone chiro work. There is a military chiro but he is for active duty only Now, if they believe chiro works enough to pay someone to do it, then why can't they cover it for dependents?? Urg. Any way, I called several when I was pregnant but maybe I'll try again.

That sounds incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately though chiro was what took care of my tailbone pain and I had it probably as long as you have now. It took many adjustments but I think it was because my chiro wasn't truly hearing me. One visit I looked at him and said my tailbone is truly killing me and he kind of look surprised and did a totally different adjustment, the pain was gone and didn't come back. In this area there is a chiro who does adjustments on a donation basis, you pay what you can...maybe ask in your tribe area if there are any good but low-cost chiros?

Good luck!
