Hi Ladies!
Thought I'd provide an update to my birthing experience.
My son, Mathias, was born on Saturday at 6:16 p.m. My labor was very different from my first. With my dd, my water broke at 1:30 a.m. and then my first contraction hit at 2 am. I was catapulted into active labor immediately. Dd was born at 7:12 a.m. after a very intense, fast, labor experience.
Ds's labor didn't begin with my water breaking, contractions began at about 3:30 a.m on Saturday morning which were strong enough to wake me up. The next contractions until about 2 p.m. that afternoon were very bearable and spaced out about 15 minutes apart. It was an easy day knowing that soon my son would be born! I straightened the house and chatted with my mom and husband until the Tsunami hit.
At about 1 ish, I had an hour long break from contractions and took a nap. At around 2 p.m, a very painful contraction hit that had me springing from the bed and almost to my knees. The next contractions were still only 15 mins apart.
I have to tell you that was the most confusing part b/c they were sooooo irregular and never got any closer together than about 10 minutes. They were so intense at this point that my mom said to call the birth center and tell them you're closer together than you are. We did, and the midwife on call was the one who delivered dd. She knew that I had a history of fast births once I was in active labor so she told me to come on down.
On the way to the birth center, I only had about 2 contractions and they were mild so I was beginning to rethink whether we should be heading there yet. Once we got to the building, another strong contraction hit in the lobby.
When I got to the birthing room with the tub, I asked them to check me after another contraction just so I wouldn't be caught in a contraction when they had me on the bed. Other than the fact that I was in soo much pain, I wasn't convinced I'd be dilated since the contractions never got close.
The student midwife checked me at 3 pm and I was 6 cms!! I was so relieved that I wouldn't have long to go that I just cried. Dh held me and whispered scriptures in my ears and they filled the tub for me.
I got in and an hour and a half later (after very irregular contractions....some very hard and long, some very soft and short) I was 9 cms. The next hour and a half of what was left of my labor was much harder than my previous birth even though up to this point, the intensity wasn't as bad.
Mathias "Gift of God" was born at 6:16 p.m. It was only about 4 hours from my first unbearable contraction after my nap.
He was 7 lbs, 10 ounces, with a 34 cm head circumfrence, and measuring 21 inches long.
I am in bliss and I am so happy to report that my tummy is almost flat again!!
Here are a few photos on my blog!
