Thanksgiving theme resources/ideas

Thought I'd start a thread about what resources/ideas you have for a "thanksgiving unit" We are currently doing world history but I think this month Im going to try to focus on Thanksgiving here in US. Im looking for elementary/preschool type ideas. I have a ton of books from the library on various Thanksgivig type topics/stories but looking for some more *filler* and craft activities. TIA

Subbing! We found some great books at the library that tell the true Thanksgiving story. We're aiming for gentle honesty about it rather than the campy jolly pilgrim/Indian stories that are often aimed at early learners. A great one was put out by NatGeo.

Interested in hearing your filler and craft responses!

We did Scholastic's The First Thanksgiving: Voyage on the Mayflower online activity and Plimoth Plantation's You Are the Historian: Investigating the First Thanksgiving activity today. My son is a first grader and enjoyed them both.

I'm not a homeschool mom- in fact, I'm not a mom yet. Hence, I have time to research. I was also looking for some activities for my nieces who have never had a US thanksgiving. So, here's what I've found:

Historical Activities
- native american food
- pilgrim toilet paper tube
- tepee (yes, I realize that those NA were'nt living in tepees, but these are cute)
- pilgrim hats for boys and girls
- "If I was a Pilgrim" writing activity
- corn husk doll
- Mayflower model
- Native American website that teaches facts about different NA living all over N. America

Harvest Crafts
- natural elements turkey
- a popcorn (or mini marshmallow) and cranberry string for decoration. You could probably use it for Thanksgiving, then put it on the tree.
- hand and foot print turkey
- mini food cornacopias

Other
- print at home activity books, maps, crafts, coloring pages
- "give thanks" printable placemat

I really hope this helps you.

You might want to consider Native American perspective on the historical account of Thanksgiving while presenting the material. Just something to think about.
