Baby doesn't like Moby. Other suggestions?

I'm feeling a bit discouraged. My 3 week old ds doesn't seem to like the Moby wrap. I had visions of wearing him all the time and it just isn't happening. I have tried wrapping the Moby in different ways, I've tried him in different positions (facing me with his head supported and lying on his back as though he were lying in my arms) but he simply doesn't seem comfortable. He cries, kicks his legs, twists and shifts. It seems like he doesn't like being constrained in any way. He loves being held by me, but just not in the Moby.

Are there some babies who don't like being in wraps/slings? Or have I simply not found the right wrap/sling? TIA.

I was kind of surprised at how opinionated DD was about babywearing when she was that tiny. We tried a ring sling and a pouch sling, but she hated them both. She loved the Moby, but only if she was upright, facing me, and with her head uncovered. It might just take some experimenting to figure out what your son likes.

I see you're in Manhattan (hello from Queens! ), maybe you should visit Metro Minis--you can try on all kinds of carriers, and the women there are great at figuring out what will work for the two of you.

Thanks, GoGoGirl! I didn't know about MetroMinis, so thanks for the recommendation! Looks like a great store. It was helpful to hear that you went through a similar experience with your baby. Will keep trying...

It could be that he just hasn't found a way to be comfy in the Moby yet. My son loves the Moby, but he doesn't like any normal positions in it. He twists and twists around when I first put him in until he's sort of in a diagonal position halfway between newborn hug and cradle hold. He LOOKS so uncomfortable that way... but he falls asleep there instantly and if I move him back, he squirms his way right back there. Crazy.

He also hates having his head covered by the Moby fabric when he's awake. I wait until he's asleep and then sneak it over his head.

It could also be that it's just not the carrier for you guys. :/ Do you have a local baby store where you could try on other carriers? Or a friend who has an Ergo or something? It's so hard to know what your baby is going to like until you have a chance to try it out!

Do you have a group that holds babywearing meetings near you? I think it might be a good idea to go to one if there is one and make sure that you are putting the teeny one in there properly.

Make sure also that you are starting with a well fed baby who does not have a wet diaper and that he is happy before you put him in. Also try walking around because some babies do not like standing still and being worn especially when little.

It took some trial and error for me and my LO. I like PP idea of going to a shop that has multiple carriers and trying them out.

I lusted after a BabyHawk for my whole pregnancy, didn't get it before DS was born but had 3 other carriers that were not working, after the disappointment of them not working for us, I was hesitant ot spend any more money on a new carrier. But I was in a local shop and the clerk offered to show me how to put on the BabyHawk...I was in heaven, and bought instantly It's been love ever since!

Sometimes you just have to find what will work for you.
