*Calm* DVD for preschoolers

I need suggestions for DVDs for my 3 year old.

I'd prefer something educational or at the very least drama-free (Shrek and Nemo are just not cutting it) but when I search online I'm coming up empty handed.

Any ideas?

my number one pick, hands down, would be any of the Little Bear DVDs. They're so calm and sweet, and I love how the characters use their imagination.

You could also give Spot or Kipper a try, they're nice too.

i have to second Little Bear. they are wonderful stories. voices are soothing, music is lovely, the animated art is colorful but true to the spirit of the books.

My first thought was Kipper, but Little Bear is good too!

Must put in my vote for Little Bear and Kipper as well, and possibly Paddington.

Kipper!

a good one for getting kids calm and giving them some exercise is the yoga dvd, silly to calm it's 30 minutes long and my kids love it!

my 2 year old LOVES Dora which isn't exactly 'calm' but I love that it gets her involved and sometimes moving and she repeats more words for Dora than she does for any 'real' people lol

My DS likes Microcosmos.

I bought the Mr. Rogers DVDs online from Amazon - there are three, each with two episodes. We love them.

I love Mr Rodgers too!!

My son loved watching animal shows. We used to rent nature doumentaries. The music and voices are calming and who can resist cute cubs! PBS makes great ones your could probably find on line or at the library. I remember one about the first 5 days of a cubs life as well as some great ones about whales and dolphins.

Well how cute is that Kipper's accent? DD seems to like it-we watched a few from the On Demand channel. It was just a nice reprieve from Shrek! I hate that I need something to keep her busy and resort to the TV but with a 2.5 week old and a 3 year old it helps with my sanity.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Little Bear, Max and Ruby and Clifford are all nice and calm. I also like that they are short and I can make it so that only one will play at a time making it easy to say TV is over after just one 10-15 min block.

Another vote for Kipper here. I bought one initially because of a thread like this and now have 5 of them. They are so soothing, yet he uses his imagination, plus since it is marketed in Europe, there are no tie in licensed characters. Your child will never beg for Kipper cereal, yogurt, dolls, games, etc. I was really adamant that DS not watch things that had product tie-ins, and Kipper is fantastic!

My girls are big fans of The Wind in the Willows. They prefer the cartoon version.
I also like others mentioned: Mr. Rogers, Kipper, Little Bear, Max & Ruby, Olivia, Caillou
*I understand some parents find Caillou's voice irritating, but the pace of the show is nice and natural. Personally, I don't see how these same parents put up with Spongebob's voice...

Clifford or Miffy are the picks in our house. Miffy is a 100% guaranteed 15-30 minutes of peace and quiet the 5 days a week it comes on PBS.

Kipper, Pocoyo and Pingu are all really good and each episode is short for all three - you can "watch instantly" on Netflix for all 3 (we have a Roku so we stream to the TV).

...also Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Angelina Ballerina and my kids loved Bing&Bong/Tiny Planets at that age which are both educational and gentle.
