Anyone ever made some? Or another good chocolatey-bacony kind of candy and have a recipe you'd reccommend?

Shut up! Chocolate and bacon....together? Don't tease a pregnant lady like that (sorry I'm no help, just watching. I'm intrigued. )

Seriously - chocolate and bacon? I don't think my taste buds are adventurous enough for that!

It's actually really simple. Take a good, thick, meaty bacon. Fry it until crispy (no squishy fat, trim if you have to). Immediately drain on paper towels and pat both sides with paper towels. You want it good and dry. Trim any non-crispy fat parts. In a double boiler, melt good quality chocolate (dark, but not super-high %, is best.) When bacon is room temp, dip in chocolate, and place on wax paper. Let it solidify in the fridge, then store, wrapped in parchment paper, in a cool place.

For a bacon contest I did fresh pineapple wedges wrapped in bacon dipped in dark chocolate. HUGE HIT!

I also made bacon vodka. It too, was consumed expeditiously.

Hmm. . . so I might be able to fanagle something with just cooking bacon and tossing it in a good bark combo? A chocolate shop here recently had a bacon bark and dh tried it and loved it, and was so disappointed it's only an occaisonal item (he tried to get more). I figured I could try it out for the holidays to surprise him.

Anyone else tried out making bacony chocolates?

Hmmm....that sounds so strange that I have to try it. Dh and Ds are crazy for bacon and both have a deep love of chocolate too...might be a hit...thanks.

Here's a recipe from "Everything Tastes Better with Bacon" by Sara Perry. I've modified the wording to avoid copyright issues. There is another one that also sounds good that can try to post later.

Bacon Brittle

1 c. sugar
0.5 c. light corn syrup
0.5 c. water
1 T. butter, unsalted
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. baking soda
0.5 c. chopped pecans
6-8 oz. bacon, cooked and crumbled into bits (1/3 to 1/2 cup bacon bits)

Combine sugar, syrup, water in a medium heavy saucepan. Place over mediium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil. Attach a candy thermometer. Increase heat to high and cook (without stirring) until it reaches 290 F. Immediately remove from heat and stir in the butter, baking soda, nuts and bacon bits. Mixture will foam. When the foam subsides, pour the hot mixture onto a previously buttered/greased large baking sheet (non-stick). Pour as thinly as possible (but don't use a spatula to spread). Cool for 10 min or longer then break into pieces. Store in a covered container.

Bacon vodka:

Bottle of vodka
fatty bacon cut into small peices.

Cook down the bacon and stick into into a huge glass jar. Pour the vodka over and close. Shake it up really well twice a day for 3 days. Refridgerate on the 4th day. on the 5th day scrape all the grease and bacon off and then strain through cheese cloth to remove the rest of the fat.

Drink with bloody mary's, cesears (my fave) etc. or make a bacon martini!!!!

We've made it by dipping cooked bacon in melted chocolate chips. My hubby actually made it and everyone at church except for the guys said "oh that's different" which means they didn't like it I thought it was pretty good!!!
