Clicking tongue while nursing...

Is this ALWAYS a sign of poor latch?
Dd is 8 days old. She nurses every 3 hours about, for 10 to 20 minutes and usually only on one side. I'm not having nipple pain. However, my midwife told me that dd's clicking indicates a poor latch, and her mouth doesn't seem to be open as wide as it could be. I'm not concerned about weight gain (4 ounces over the past four days) but wonder if I should work on latch JUST because of the clicking...
TIA

Both of my kids did that when teeny tiny, and grew out of it with no issues and no meddling on my part.

DD2, now 10 months, make that same noise whenever her face is close to our faces - we think it's her kissy noise! Awwww!

my ds#2 did this for the 1st couple of months.....in my case I went to a LC when he was 3 wks because I wanted to rule out tongue tie.........turns out he was lifting his tongue up to defend himself from over active letdown/oversuppply......
now that he is 3 months old, he handles the flow much better and i rarely hear the clicking

can you see a LC just to ease your mind? Good luck!

DD is 10 weeks old and has been clicking while nursing since about 2 weeks old. I have a very fast flow and strong letdown, so I really think she is just having trouble handling that.
You may want to rule out tongue-tie, I know that causes a poor latch and clicking.

Aside from getting too much air, and beiing gassy as a result, the clicking hasn't caused any real problems for DD.

Thank you all for your answers! I think I have a very strong letdown, because the clicking isn't continuous, it happens more at the beginning of a feed (like, when I feel letdown). Would nursing be painful with tongue tie? I'm guess I should check with an LC, it just never occurred to me that there was a problem until someone told me the clicking was a bad sign.
