Do any of you use wool ALL the time??

It seems I have cover angst going on. I find the Bummi's covers unpleasantly stiff. The motherease airflow covers leave nasty red marks on my little porker's thighs. The Stacinator So Simple cover raises a blistery rash where the fleece touches his skin (we had rash issues with bum genius, so I think he just doesn't tolerate synthetics).

My diaper stash is almost exclusively motherease... mostly one size cotton with a few bamboo sandy's in the mix for fun. I sold off all my fancy pockets because I find them more trouble than they are worth. Anyways, I am having these issues finding a cover I love. I use wool when I can... I only have one aristocrat and one pair of sustainable babyish karate pants, though, so often I have to resort to synthetics.

Does anybody on here use wool pretty much all the time? How's that working out for you?

I kind of think maybe I'll order another aristocrat and forge ahead just using wool.

Oh and also my sustainable babyish karate pants are wicking... I just washed them with eucalan and heavily lanolized them with additional lanolin, so I'm hoping that will stop the wicking... Any thoughts??

I had intended to, but my guy came out so small that none of the wool fit him the first couple weeks.

Now, he's pretty exclusively in wool. I do have 1 PUL wrap to put over the snappi'd prefolds, since I know snappis can damage handknit wool. But he rarely wears prefolds (only when I've put off laundry). I use the Imse Vimse organic cotton wraps.

My guy loves the wool, and I have to agree. Most of mine is hand-knit, but I do have a couple Sugar Peas that I love. Usually the wool only starts wicking once it's absorbed all it can, although I don't have any s'bish, that's how my hand-knits work. How wet is the dipe when it's wicking?

I use almost all wool with my DD. Usually her only nonwool is her nighttime diaper. I use mostly interlock. I actually found it easier once I switched over to wool (almost) entirely. I like interlock b/c I can wash it in my washer on the handwash cycle. I use face of the wave wool wash http://www.faceofthewave.com/catalog.php?category=24& I lanolize in my kitchen sink if something seems to be wicking. I use spray lanolin usually right after I wash when the wool is still a bit wet. It stretches the time btwn real soaking lanolizing. I think if you have all of the tool it is really easy.

oh, & wool wash bars are great for getting out stains & last a looooong time

It is sooo much better for my DD than the pul covers. no more red marks on her legs & no more eczema on her tush.

Hmm.... I use motherease diapers under my wool covers, and I find that they get REALLY wet, really fast. Like, one good pee and they're completely soaked. So it's no wonder my wool starts wicking within a half hour of being worn. Maybe the problem isn't my wool, but rather the diapers underneath it! Maybe I'll try adding a doubler in the dipes, and see if that extends the wearability of the system at all. I don't mind frequent changes, but every 20-30 minutes is pushing it!!

we use cricketts fitteds under wool and love that. i think a doubler could really help you too though!

We use wool 85% of the time. DH likes wraps and I don't have any wool wraps that fit right now. I love shorties and longies, its one less layer one the baby. We use Indian prefolds or flannel/terry fitteds. They only wick if they need to be relanolinized or there isn't enough diaper underneath.

I have with my previous babe. Over Mother ease I love Imse vimse Bumpy wool covers. They are so easy care and reliable too and have leg gussets. Also hand knitted wool soakers run a close second.

With dd #1 I used imse vimse wool wraps with infant prefold 99% of the time from birth until 7 or so months when she finally outgrew the 3nb and small covers I had. I lever had any problems and it was so nice only to wash the covers 1x a month. I never had/have good luck with knitted wool it always seems to leak. My fav wool covers are imse vimse bumpy covers and lanacare pull on soakers. I just got the clover diaperpant cover(since clovers make up dd#1 whole stash now) so fae they work great! For dd#2 I just bought a pair of ruskovilla wool longies to try but all her diapers a way to big still I went to the store today to buy the lana covers but she didn't have them anymore

Using wool IMO is so much easier to wash then synthetic pocets etc...

I've gone through phases of using all wool. My fav cover is definitely Aristocrats, LanaCare are also nice. Babyology off Ebay is another great choice, like the Aristocrats, but about 1/2 as much, but not quite as soft.

With wool, you really do need a good absorbent diaper underneath, but that's really true of all covers (at least if you want a happy baby).

We are also BIG fan's of Crickett's diapers. I honestly can never recall a time when they leaked anything.

We originally started using wool full time because it seemed the most comfortable on the baby. Honestly, the only reason we're still not using wool full time is that when my husband would change her, he wouldn't rinse them out when needed, and I would suddenly realize I had no clean wool, and grew tired of having to wash it all at once, and not have any to put on the baby.

DD is in wool a good portion of the time. More so than not. I used to buy wool covers like Aristocrats, Little Beetle and Disana. They all work wonderfully. Then I got to thinking and decided to start making them myself out of wool sweaters from the thrift store and they work just as well, if not better than those super pricey ones. I guess I ruined one too many $60 wool longies that got thrown into the wash on accident. So since I make them, I have TONS of shorties and longies and she spends most of her time in wool.

We use mostly prefolds (and a few fitteds) with wool only. We have both hand knit and interlock longies and a few interlock soakers. We typically just use the longies in the winter as regular clothing over the diaper and it works wonderfully. On occasion we use a soaker under "regular" pants, but I much prefer just using wool as clothing.

We use almost exclusively wool that can be washed in our washing machine on the wool cycle, which makes it really easy. You actually don't want to heavily lanolize because that can make the wool less breathable like PUL and it can leak more. You want lightly lanolized, maybe a little extra in the wetzone. We use Euculan unscented in the machine and some lanolin spray in the wetzone that I bought on Hyenacart. Works great!
