ergo vs becco vs moby

I am deciding between the Ergo, Becco and Moby carriers.
I would love to get all three... are they pretty close to the same? Would it be a waste to get all three, or are they different enough?

I like that the Moby allows the baby to face out.
I like that the Becco is easy to put on my back without help, and also that it looks kind of like the Bjorn which my baby was comfy in so I think he would like it.
And I like the Ergo because it has hip carrying and more positions.

My baby is 5 months, and I plan to wear him around the house and when we go out shopping or to play (I have a toddler as well.)

So my question is.. are these carriers different enough for it to be worth it get all three? If not which woudl you reccomend and why?

I have a Moby and love it for newborn/younger baby carries. When they get older and more mobile? Not so much. Last winter I made the decision between a Beco and an Ergo. I decided on the Beco because I felt that the taller back support provided for longer usage in our household given my taller babies. I liked the look a little more, and I liked that it's a product made in the USA. I tried both models out and felt more comfy in the Beco. If you can, find a local retailer who will allow you to try them out and decide which works best for you.

I have a Moby and a Beco and they are VERY different and good for different things. I think it is worth having both a wrap and a SSC. However, you probably don't need both a Beco and an Ergo - you can read up on them and decide which one is right for you.

I wanted to add that I have heard 5 or 6 months is when the Moby stops being that supportive and most wrapping mamas graduate to a woven wrap. Something to consider...

I LOVE the moby for young babies. It sags a little bit once they get bigger but its worth it to me for the early days. I definitely wouldn't consider it the same as ergo/beco. ds is 6 months and 20lbs now and I still pull it out occasionally, but he's getting a little heavy for the stretchy fabric.

Ergo vs beco.. I'd consider them pretty similar. As far as comfort for both baby and I, they're the same. Beco is prettier. I tried the hip carry in the ergo once or twice, and didn't find it practical or comfortable. The beco I find a little more complicated. The ergo super easy. I actually found the ergo extremely easy to get baby on my back without help, never once came even close to dropping. The beco, I usually prefer to have help. and I have almost dropped him, a stranger on the train caught him.

What model do you have? In the butterfly II I think it would be impossible to drop the baby in putting on your back.

i don't think its the butterfly II. So I guess.. butterfly I? the near dropping happened when he was already on my back and I was getting him down. Unclipped the front, arms out of the straps, and trying to shimmy him back around to my front to take him out. He arched backwards and I lost my grip. A stranger caught him.

No baby yet so this is an untested plan

We have got 2 Mobys and an Ergo. I loved some of the Becco patterns but I read several reviews which mentioned straps rubbing and cutting in so we went with the Ergo. We don't plan to use it for our newborn though as we live in a very hot climate and think the insert would make it too hot.

Oh, and we also got a couple of slings for the newborn stage and a woven Gypsy Mama Bali Breeze for summer, by which time our May baby will probably be getting a bit heavy for the Moby.

I wouldn't recommend a Moby for someone whose baby is already 5-6 months. They are a stretchy wrap and just not as good for older babies/toddlers. If you want a wrap, there are many good woven wraps.

There are also many good SSCs - so much more than just the Ergo and Beco - neither of which would make my top list.

I also wouldn't get a stretchy wrap like the Moby since your little one is already 5 months. I think it would be a great idea to get a woven wrap though--you can do anything with it that you could do with a Moby, plus you could do hip and back carries. And it's good for newborn through preschooler--can't beat that!

I know it's normal to think that putting a baby on your back with a wrap is hard, but it wasn't for me, and it doesn't have to be with a little practice.

I think if you look at a soft structured carrier like the Beco or Ergo, watch some videos, read some instructions, and do the same for a wrap, you can figure out which one looks like it will be more intuitive and comfortable for YOU and get that one.

Yeaaaah just popped my 4 month old in the Moby to cook dinner and it's not nearly as comfortable now as it was when she was little. I'd go with one ssc and one woven.

Thanks. I won't bother getting the Moby then. I have looked at many SSC wraps and have always came back to the Ergo, even when I was looking for my first baby, but never ended up buying it. The beco seems pretty similar so I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. Maybe that will change when I actually try them on.
I will look into some woven wraps, I haven't looked at any of those at all. Can anyone recommend ones that they like?

I started out with a mei tai for longer trips but with our windy city I am moving to a Beco. Same idea as a mei tai, just buckles instead of really long straps! With the Beco I really like how insanely close my son was to me so it was no trouble to carry him.

I also wanted a carrier though that I could use for quick trips, and not have to do a bunch of adjusting for just a few minutes. For this I chose the ring sling. Super easy to use, various body types can use it, and you can do hip carries with it.

I like the buckles and strap adjustments on the Ergo better than on the Beco, but the Beco is more stylish, equally as comfortable, and babies have a wider viewing angle when they're riding in it. I would try both and then decide, because they have different features and fit differently.

I have a Sleepy Wrap which is like a stretch Moby. My daughter is 8 months old and we love it. I love that I can wear her lots of different ways.

I just wanted to say I LOVE my Becco! I used to have to lay my mei tai on the bed to get DD in a back carry because my arms/shoulders just aren't that flexible. With the Becco I can easily get my DD (now 20 months - just used it today grocery shopping) into it right out of the carseat. She can be a real handful in stores, so this thing has been SO worth every penny and more! I am also finding for some reason it's even more comfortable than my huge Kelty carrier on long walks. Maybe that one isn't adjusted properly, because I wore DS in that until he was 4-5 years old, but the Becco was great for even a few-mile hikes this summer. I just LOVE it!!

I didn't care for the Moby. Loved the fabric, but not the shape of the ends/tails - they bugged me. I prefer a wrap that is not tapered like that. I have a Gypsy Mama converted sling (converted from a stretchy wrap) and I wish I had gotten one of those wraps instead of my Moby.

I can’t speak for the Becco, but I love my ergo, and didn’t really care for the moby. Yes, the moby is VERY comfortable, but that’s about the only thing it has going for it. It takes some time to figure out, a little bit of effort to get baby in and out and once my DD got about 3-4 months, I felt like she was just hanging there, not really supported. Plus, I felt like I was wearing another thick shirt. Not very cute, and it made me sweat! I’m pretty thin, so there was a ton of extra fabric that I just had to wrap multiple times around my waste.

I LOVE the ergo! I got mine when DD was about 9 months and we mostly use it to carry her on my back. The most recent time I used it with her, she was 2.5 years old, weighed 31 pounds and I was 8 months pregnant. It was still pretty comfortable. Now I have a 3 month old DS, and don’t really like to use it with him. He prefers the bjorn. When he get’s a little holder I’ll try him again in the ergo.

I have a moby and an ergo- I love them both. I like the ergo because I swear it makes the baby feel almost weightless... I have not worn my newborn in it though. I do love it for our 2 year old- we wear her hiking, to fairs, etc. I don't have the infant insert yet so I can't say with newborns. I like the moby for newborns but I do find that once they get heavier, they kinda sag unless you have the moby tied kinda tight, which my DD hated. I think she is claustrophobic! I had a WAHM mei tai (is a beco a mei tai?) in the past and I felt like the baby's legs were out too far or something.

I think a mei tai is kinda similar to an ergo in the way that you wear them. I am debating a ring sling to add to our collection because you get that different way of wearing them.. the hip carry.

I have both the Moby and an Ergo and now that DD is 5 months we use the Ergo more and more. Just started the back carry and it rocks. We mostly carry her in front facing in. I do use the hip carry on occasion too and even facing out a couple of times (not recommended by Ergo FYI). I really like the hood too. My only complaints are the fact that it is not exactly pretty and I always feel like the Moby is easier on my back but I am under 5 feet tall so I think that it is just not designed for the super short. I still am a big Moby fan but you can't beat the ease of the Ergo.

Just want to make the caution that stretchy wraps (moby, sleepy, loveyduds) are not good for back carries. It's been alluded to, but not outright said on here. I've heard many horror stories of babies falling out of back carries in a Moby, specifically. That's what you use your ssc for (or mei tai).
