Wool coat instead of sweater?

I'm having trouble finding recycled wool sweaters that are priced to cut up. I have seen a few wool coats or blazers and wondered about using them for wrap covers. I know they wouldn't work for a pull-up cover, since they're not stretchy, but what about a wrap? I saw that the Boise Cloth tute used a skirt, so that made me wonder. Usually coats would be too expensive, but there's one thrift store in town that has cheap ones.
I guess they're less soft, and maybe more often scratchy, since they're all lined?

I actually like the bit of give from a fulled sweater in the wraps I made for my son.
I also made numerous wraps from fulled woven wool that worked quite well. As the wool is soft and there aren't tons of seams, I'd go for it. The two big things I'd look out for are lots of seams (in fitted jackets which will be hard to sew over and generally make things look wonky) and wool that is too thick and won't mold around the baby well. I am currently using a thrifted wool coat for a different project, and it is much stiffer than my fulled sweaters and has tons of seams that I have to cut around. I know it wouldn't have done well as a wrap.
Oh, and some unsolicited advice, I used the Very Baby wrap pattern for my son from NB to L and loved it. It was super easy and a nice cut (at least for a chunky monkey like mine).
Happy sewing,
Melinda
