From Babycenter.com: "Your one-week old"

Thread Starter

While I understand that babycenter.com likely targets mainstream moms, and most mainstream moms would have long been induced by 41w1d, which I am today, this was just a slap in the face. I've actually enjoyed their weekly e-mails on baby development in utero. But now following on the heels of the constant barrage of phone calls asking me if I've had the baby yet (aka reminding me I'm still pregnant), I'm "supposed" to have a one-week old?

WHERE THE HECK IS THE FRIGGIN STORK?

I needed to get that out, thanks.

I am so sorry, vegasgrl. It must be hard to still be pregnant and be barraged by this culture in which women are mostly no longer allowed to be pregnant to their natural term. It's really a generational thing. My MIL, mom and aunts all had their first babies 8-12 days late and told me there was no mention of induction even though most of them had babies in the hospital with OBs. It's crazy that induction has moved down the timetable and mainstream advertising and expectation has as well.

I'm probably headed for a 41-42 weeker myself. At least the baby will be cooked and ready to come out and thus (hopefully) the birth will go smoothly.

Hang in there!

I know.....Dh has received comments at work about, "well you know you'll have it by next week. And he's told them well actually no WE DON'T KNOW THAT!! I know it's so hard to watch that date come and go. But I think it's really nice to have something in life that we can't control or schedule down to the hour (well if we choose to and obviously if everything is okay). Hang in there and stop answering your phone.

I'm 41w2days right now myself, and I understand how you are feeling!

My Mom is a great support though. All of her babies were "late"... but the one who was the latest, born at 43 weeks, was also her easiest baby. He nursed wonderfully, gained weight fast, slept a lot, and was very content. And he's turned into a very smart man...I'd say the smartest of my 5 siblings... he has a Ph.D. in atmospheric science. So here's to all the babies still baking! Somewhere I read too that the extra time is good for babies brains maybe I'll try to find that article and post it here as a reminder that it's not so bad...

Grrr...how frustrating! You just hang in there, Momma. You are doing the right thing for your little one! Trust your baby to come when (s)he is good and ready! Congrats and have a wonderful home birth!

How annoying! I remember when I was 39 wks there were people asking me if I was going to be induced and when....

Your posts crack me up. I had the same thing happen except that I went to the babycenter site to look up something and it was telling me I had a one week old ... and this was BEFORE my due date. Um,no? I ended up going two days late to boot!

Maybe the stork has H1N1 and they're looking for a sub?

I remember people telling me to schedule a c-section so we could claim her on our taxes! (I, umm, fudged a bit with the general public on the EDD to try to avoid these things so people thought I was due in December. This was October when I started getting advice!)

That is pretty out there!

I say, just don't answer your phone. Seriously! Tell ppl that you are hibernating and won't call them til the baby's here.

I remember cancelling the Babycenter.com emails after 40 weeks specifically to avoid that frustration It sucks being "late"--trust me I know.

hang in there mama

Oh, didn't you get the message? Sorry. He's on the strip ... he has a teeeeny little gambling problem, so it'll probably be another couple of days before we get get him out of the casinos. Baby Kate is doing really great though. She loves the sound of the slots and finds all the colors just dazzling.

Seriously, though, I hope you get to meet your baby girl soon! Tell everybody else to just jump in a lake.

I'm sorry... I wasn't even at my due date and everyone was asking when I was getting induced. No one could believe that I would be "allowed" to go until 42 weeks! Keep your chin up- your baby knows when she is ready to come out!
