Question

So our ped knows that I don't want her messing with DS's foreskin, but she always tried at his appointments...not to retract really, just to gently pull back a tiny bit to expose the hole.

I never let her. last time I actually grabbed her hand away! Anyway she said it was important for me to pull back a bit and wash around the hole with warm water to prevent infections...she empahsized this was NOT retracting.
Anyway I was under the impression that the best thing to do was leave it alone...It gets cleaned in the tub with water, but I never pull back at all. and with diaper changes I wipe like a finger....am I missing something or is she just clueless??

You are correct and she is wrong..

Check out this thread:

You can present her with this info from the AAP as well and ask her why she does not follow AAP guidelines.

I believe DOC will also send a letter to your DR. free of charge.

Why are doctors so clueless on Retracting when they are retracting but say they are not ?

I wonder the same thing MommytoB. Any and all movement back toward the body no matter how small IS retraction period.

What she is suggesting you do can cause infections not prevent them.

I think the fact that you haven't been doing it and he hasn't had infections speaks volumes and proves the point!
