Indoor clothes drying...help?

Thread Starter
I've recently started hanging out clothes indoors in order to save money (we don't have w/d hookups in our apt.

Being that it's rainy (Oregon...go figure), I can't hang them on my balcony right now (although that's the plan for the summer!). I bought a Leifheit drying rack...it's big...plus I have one of those wooden accordion style ones.

ANYWAY - let me get to the point!

I'm having some stink issues with my clothes...not *all* of the clothes...and not *all* the time...but I really don't want to have to re-wash things, yanno?

I can't really open a window because, well, it's cold. I don't mind - but the 4 month old might! What else can I do? The room I'm drying them in is *big*...so that's not the problem.

Am I just going to have to suck it up and pay to dry our thicker clothing (sweaters, prefolds, etc) or is there some magic trick I'm missing?

TIA for any advice, tips...whatever!

I'm trying to be as frugal as possible here, and the little things really do add up, right?

sweaters should be sandwiched between two towels, tightly rolled and then gently stepped on to get as much moisture out as possible before hanging.
you may want to switch to flats for your diapers, they dry much quicker, maybe there is a diaper swap in your area? otherwise i would take those to the dryer, you dont want mildew on your babe's bum.
maybe someone has a decent trick though?
i have been known to dry things in my kichen with my oven door open, but i dont think thats a long term solution!

I run into this issue some too. Mine is mostly because I wait until EVERYTHING is dirty and then do the washing all at once and hang things too closely together so the pcs can't breathe and take too long to dry.

A couple of things that have helped to make things dry quicker though:
-run the washer through an extra spin cycle when it stops, and/or use the fast spin cycle if you have an option.
-with sweaters I use two or three hangers or the padded kind so there is air space between the front and back layers of material.
-put a fan on them.

I must say though, that my clothes don't hold up well to washing and I don't know if that's fast spin cycle thing or not. But, mine don't hold up even when I do to them what most everyone else does to them, so it may just be me.

Hang as high as possible (hot air rises) in as busy a place as possible (max airflow).
We put ours on radiators & over the wood stove.
