We use Nutiva. We buy it in bulk from http://www.therawfoodworld.com/

It's delicious!

I love Wilderness Family Naturals high-end stuff best. I also use and enjoy Tropical Traditions expeller-pressed stuff for cooking, as it is far less expensive.

Another vote for Nutiva here. We buy it directly from Nutiva; it's $43.99 a gallon and shipping is free: http://nutiva.com/catalog/product_re...fef532a149c92d

I definitely like Nutiva as well. Smooth and a bit coconutty tasting. I also like the stuff from www.coconutoil-online.com or something but it's really expensive comparatively.

I have Nature's Way Effagold (sp?) virgin unrefined organic coconut oil. It is the first one I have purchased, so I have nothing to compare it to but I like it.... very mild coconut taste when eaten raw, very mild coconut smell when applied externally (I use it on my skin more than anything...that's what I bought it for originally), and it has no flavor when heated and cooked with.

I have read mostly about the Nutiva brand now that I am interested in using it more and have been looking for information. It is twice the cost in our HFS, but it is stocked in the food aisle versus the other brands, which are stocked in the supplements dept.

I'm curious to try the Nutiva brand. I'd probably buy it solely to cook/bake/eat and continue using a less expensive brand to use on my skin (still organic and unrefined, though). Although, at $44 a gallon through the link above, it would become cheaper than any brand I can buy in the HFS.....

I don't have a favorite brand yet, as I don't think I've used the same twice, yet.

But as to the grittiness of yours--I understand that if it becomes liquid and then solidifies slowly, it can be gritty. If you want it to be smoother, you can melt it down a bit, then cool it quickly, like in a bowl of cold water. It should be less gritty. I believe the same goes for many of the same types of fats such as cocoa butter, lard, etc.
