My baby is still very young, almost 2 mo, but I was thinking of buying a SSC in a couple of months when she has good head control. Which one do you prefer? Did you find them very different?

Thanks for answering my poll!

I wouldn't mind an ergo at all, but I can't afford one and they are hard to come across at a reasonably used price. But even so, I prefer ties to buckles because buckles can be annoying. On top of that you can use it with a newborn, an infant, and even a toddler with no problem! So, I'd go with a mei tai.

OH, a good site for a mei tai is the Eden Mei Tai site. They mei tais there have a raised back for head support. On the 2 Momma Designs site they have an option for a sleep hood which is really nice. I have an Eden Mei Tai.

I've never tried an ergo, and I know people love them, but I love mei tais enough that I have no reason to try an ergo! I definitely recommend a mei tai!

By the way, I don't think that a mei tai qualifies as a soft structured carrier, probably because it doesn't have much structure! Just a square of fabric with straps, for the most part.

Oh, yeah, like pp said, you can use a mei tai with your little one, just making sure you support the head with the body of the mei tai. Kelley has great instruction for carrying a newborn if you scroll down near the bottom of this page:

i voted both because i love my mei tai for wearing my son on my front because it is easier to put on the front than ergo which i have trouble trying to reach round back to fasten the back buckles when wearing on the front.
i prefer my ergo for back wearing as it gives more support when my ds falls asleep, well it does when he doesn't unfasten the press-studs.
if your just wanting it for front wearing i'd say get a mei tai.
