If we like the Planet Earth series.......

what other documentary-type DVD's would we enjoy? I bought the Planet Earth series last Christmas for our family and we have all enjoyed watching them together. My 7 year old ds is particulary enthralled with them and has a lot of interest in non-fiction entertainment like Planet Earth. I think there is another series...Blue Planet, Seas of Life or something along those lines. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I think Blue Planet is the other one.

We just watched the Walking With... series and thought they were really enjoyable. There's Walking With Monsters (pre-dino); Walking with Dinosaurs; and Walking with Prehistoric Beasts (post-dino like mammoths, saber toothed cats etc). There is some "eating" which bothered my sensitive dd a bit, but we just had her cover her eyes and told her when she could look again; she enjoyed the other parts enough it was worth it to her to keep watching. There's also mating, but neither kids ended up asking questions.

I'm a HUGE fan of the David Attenborough "Life Of..." series. Life of Birds and Life of Mammals are awesome. We also have Life in Cold Blood (reptiles & amphibians) and Life in the Undergrowth (insects). Anything else with/by David Attenborough would be good though, he's awesome!

The Meerkat Manor series is a lot of fun to watch.

FWIW we stopped watching Meerkat Manor when one of the Meerkats died and dd became hysterical. If your little one doesn't handle slightly sad things well they might not do well with it.

grahamsmom- DO you know anywhere to get the Private Life of Plants DVD in the US format? We've been trying to complete our David Attenborough Life Of collection, but I can't find that one and I've heard it's awesome. I can only find UK and Asian format DVDs.

Sorry, oiseau, our copies of the series are all on VHS tapes. No sign of it on DVD in the US format (we've searched!).

It IS awesome! When dh forst desribed it to me I thought, "Oh, hmmm, 6+ hours about plants? Maybe I'll go to the dentist, instead..." Then I watched it. Omigosh!!! It was so amazing, I was completely hooked. Never have looked at plants the same ever since!

We tried copying the tapes onto DVD, but they are copy-protected, so no go. I think dh bought the VHS tapes at B&N, way back.

Honestly? I'd try to find them on VHS and buy them. Sure, not as convenient as DVD, but what the heck. The subject is the same, either way!!
