I want to quit.

I am tired of bfing. My lo is 10 mo old, he has 4 teeth that get in the way and when he is frustrated I end up getting bit. He is squirmy and heavy (27 lbs- mostly all breastmilk- started solids at 8 mo) I can't carry him around to feed him because he is so stinking heavy. I have had the flu for a solid week and I am tired and just not getting better. The last couple of weeks everytime he nurses I just want to jump out of my skin. Yuck. That is the worst. being grossed out by your own sweet baby nursing.

Anyway- I know in my brain that I need to keep going- because honestly if he wasn't nursing now I am sure he would have gotten whatever flu I have only worse- and the season is only just beginning. No matter how hard things are now- they would be soooo much worse with a sick baby.

I need some encouragement or a stern lecture or something. Sorry to whine.

You don't need anything of the sort. You are a good mama and you will never let your li'l baby come to harm, it is apparent. You do need rest though because you are sick and have a right to whine. Maybe you also need some

Agreed - you need sympathy, a nice mug of something warm and nourishing, some cuddles and maybe a little break from your LO. Is there someone who can take him for a couple hours?

If it makes you feel any better, around that time was the absolute WORST for my DD and me nursing, and may other nursing pairs that I know. It totally sucks that you have the flu as well, but I promise you it WILL get better, and 3 or 4 months from now you will have a nursing toddler, who will be sweet and lovely and *appreciative* and who will understand and usually comply if you ask him to not use teeth or stop squirming etc.

I too was recently discouraged in bfing and posted here for some support... One poster said it best... Just take it ONE feeding at a time... Hang in there. Tell yourself you can make it thru this feeding and then next time, tell yourself you can make it thru that feeding. Before you know it a day's past... then a week...

That was a powerful reminder for me! AND it really helped as I've battled thru thrush. Best wishes & keep on strong mama!

Is it possible that you are pregnant, or getting your period back? That could be leading to that icky feeling.

can you nurse laying down? that way you can rest while he is nursing and you don't have to worry about holding him and the squirming....

Oh, I hope you feel better soon! Being sick and nursing is the worst!

I think 10 months old is a rocky time for almost ALL nursing pairs. So many babies you hear "self-weaned" at 10 months. But, really, they are just so interested in playing, want to be mobile, are testing out the physical properties of the breast (How far will it stretch? Cna I turn my head all the way around while still latched on?).

If you can make it another 2 weeks, you'll likely be through the worst of it and on to easier times. You can do two weeks, right? Just set a goal, and keep that goal in mind, Mama!

Take care of yourself! Any chance someone else can watch the baby so you can nap for a couple hours?

I already got my period back. I took a test- it was negative. I can make it 2 weeks I think. It is just hard. Everyone and thier dog tells me to wean. I know I would regret it. But it sucks. This morning was the first morning in days that I have been able to get up and talk.... So hopefully I am on the mend.

Hope you feel better soon! I felt (and still feel sometimes) very alone when nursing an "older" baby (mine is 23 months now and people are really wanting us to wean...now they are weirded out and not afraid to share it). Being sick on top of it, with a squiggly 10 month old is exhausting. Make the best decision for you and your child. Good luck

gws , its hard being sick! I have been sick as well and felt similar (as in wanting to quit) but I refuse because like you said its important right now esp in flu season. I have five young children and its so exhausting but its going to be worth it considering it may save his life kwim? If I were there I would give you a hug and some of my homemade soup. take care mama and chin up.
