4 Year Old Vaccines?

I recently got a letter in the mail telling me my daughter is due for her 4 year vaccines. I guess I thought those were supposedly due, just before the child goes to kindergarten... she has two years yet.

This has got me to thinking about researching whether this is a good idea or not. They are wanting to give her 4 shots at one time. I know the media hyped up this swine flu thing, we got the virus, and it was no worse than a bad cold for us. I can't believe how big of a deal people are making this. They have got to be doing this with other diseases as well.

SO, my question is, what if I don't vaccinate her? She had every one of her "baby shots" What happens if a child gets one chicken pox (MMR.... etc) vaccine and not another? Can you lead me to either posts on this subject, or resources? I have tried to search and really come up with nothing involving not doing the Kindergarten vaccines, after having already done the baby ones.

Also, yes, our pediatrician called these "kindergarten shots" and I believe he said the range was 4-6. So he offered them to me and the last appointment, and I was like, "uh, no thanks... I will wait a year, thanks!"

But now that I am researching more about vaccines, and now that we are planning to homeschool for kindergarten anyway...

Well Im not entirely sure what youre looking for here but, nothing happens....except that your daughters body will have less toxins if you skip them

Depending on what state you are in...you would just need to file an exemption for her to attend school (if you decide to stop vaxing).
As for what will happen if you don't complete a series or get boosters.....nothing

The one I guess I am not sure about is chicken pox. I skimmed the thread about it last week, but guess I need to look at it again. Once you have done one vax for it, then, you don't do anymore, and... run the risk of them getting it at an older age because you delayed it? I also read something about since they are vaxing for it now, it's not out there in the "wild" as much... I am going to quit babbling and just go read that thread when I have the time.

I guess that was my question too. I just didn't word it very well. I know that getting the chicken pox at an older age is not good. (late teens or adult)

So... since my child got the first one, and then didn't get the second then am I chancing her getting a really bad case as a young adult?

I myself got the actual chicken pox at age 5. I spent a few days in bed, and then went back to school. No big deal. In doing research now, I guess I don't get why they are even vaccinating for it. But, since my child received the first one... I guess I am at a loss as to whether skipping the second is a good idea or not.

I also remember getting my kindergarten shots. I got one shot in the arm, and then polio on a sugar cube. So... I don't see why my daughter needs 4 shots. I was also closer to 6 when I got them... not barely 4.

In any case, I would not get them until she actually needs them for kindergarten, but that is just my opinion. I am I guess what you call a "reluctant vaxer" -- meaning my kids have had all their vaxes but I absolutely hate doing it -- but I have done it up to this point because I really hadn't done my own research. I have just gone by my doctor's recommendation. No way I was going to give them to my ds until he actually needed them for kindergarten, though.

If you look farther down on the vaccination page, there was a recent thread called "chicken pox and shingles" or something like that -- it was full of good info, I think. I still don't have the time right now to read through the whole thing, but think it is a good idea for me and you who have the same questions apparently.

I would get titres checked for chicken pox if you are concerned. I am 24 and I have never had chicken pox. Both my brothers had it when i was about 11, they were 5 and 6 maybe. I wanted it so bad because i wanted to stay home from school, i constantly made contact with them (hugs) because i wanted to catch it so bad, and I never did. Apparently some people have a natural immunity to it, and you just never know.

Chicken pox is the one virus we are least worried about. I still can't believe there is a vax for it. I'm from a family of 6 and we ALL had it growing up. It was no big deal. I'm worried if my girls *don't* get CP so I'm hoping their be exposed to it before they are in there teens.

There are plenty of mamas that don't vax at all but you'll need to do your own reading and research about each and every disease and vax to draw your own conclusions about what you're most comfortable with.

My girls are both in daycare/kindergarten w/o vaccines and I'm not worried or concerned.

I'm also a Mama that vaxed my DD as a baby as I didn't know I had a choice and never researched. After a lot of research, I have decided not to vaccinate further - no more booster shots. I will be handing in a religious exemptions for her K and my DS preK.
Check your state's kindergarden entry requirements - it may not be 4 boosters. I'm in Mass, our pedi recommended 4 boosters (which I declined) but when I checked the school entry req, they only require a 2nd measles and 5th Dtap.

Chicken pox is something that I actively look for in my tribe forum. I want my son to get cp naturally while he is young. I had it when I was 5. I woke up easter sunday, and while opening my easter basket my mom said "Whats on your face? ah ahahahaha you have chicken pox!" with a huge "you hit a milestone!" smile. That is all I remember. I know every kid I knew had it too. The worst story I ever heard was a friend of mine got them in her throat. But she sucked on popsicles and lived to tell the tale.

You'll need an exemption for school or if homeschooling, depending on the state.

8. Transmission route of the disease
9. Prevalence of the disease
10. Treatments of the disease and efficacy of those treatments
11. Relevant research about the disease
12. Name of the vaccine
13. Company that makes the vaccine
14. Contents of the vaccine
14A. The significance of whether or not the vaccine is live
15. History of development of the vaccine
16. Known side-effects of the vaccine and rate of incidence of those side-effects
17. Possible side-effects not yet acknowledged by the vaccine maker
18. Relevant research into the vaccine
19. How effective is the vaccine at preventing the disease?
20.What is the vaccine meant to do? (Many vaccines are not meant to prevent infection or transmission).
21.Number of cases reported each year.
22.Number of deaths reported each year from the vaccine and natural disease.
