Freaking out...

DS has coslept with us since he was about a month old with no issues (he is now 6mo) and tonight I woke up and he somehow managed to wiggle away from me and under the blanket (I tuck it in at the end of the bed so it only comes up to my waist, and DS sleeps tucked under my arm near my face...so I woke up to him fussing under the blanket...he's fine and nursed back to sleep but I feel like the WORST PARENT EVER. I won't go into details about what ran through my head at that point...I love co sleeping and DS does too, but finding him under the blanket was terrifying... it felt like all of the (seemingly) senseless fear coming from my family about co sleeping was suddenly true. I can't fall back asleep and am seriously thinking about getting a crib..help...has this ever happened to anyone else...

mama. It happened to me a month or so ago, but hasn't since I think it's probably pretty common. DH sleeps in a sleeping bag away from the baby because we're worried that he sleeps a bit too soundly, but I still sleep with a blanket. DS is sleeping for part of the night in an Amby right now (because he's sleeping better on his own ) but still comes in for part of the night. I don't worry too much about the blanket issue in spite of the recent happening. I would imagine I'm much more likely to sense something being wrong when he's right there with me as opposed to away in a crib...

Take care.

Your mama instinct is what woke you to check on your babe. I know you are freaked, but you were right there to sense something wrong & respond. If it was me & I was still worried, I would dress warmer and nix the blankets before putting my babe away from me.

this happened to me once when ds was 6 weeks. i had gone to bed early with him and dh woke me up because he was fussing and under the blanket. he was so, so hot and had a fever (not because he was under the blanket, but i'm sure that didn't help at all). i was so scared and felt like a horrible mommy. but it hasn't happened since. i think monmoto is right, your mommy instinct kicked in. you're not a bad mama and it probably won't happen again. you'll be doubly aware now!

Ditch the blanket and dress warmer. I wear a robe to bed and only use a thin sheet up to my waist.
