Where do I start?

My daughter who has been in school for a year and a half is finally coming home. I am pulling her and my 5 yr old out at Christmas, so we start 2010 as a homeschooling family. This will be very new for me having to teach a 9 yr old and a 5 yr old.

I thought about buying Sonlight, but think buying two curriculums will not be possible to fit into the day, so am feeling I will have to devise my own using Rupp as a core for standards.

I figured they can do numeracy and literacy separate but we could do science, art and humanities togther. Does this sound feasable?

Is it possible to do this with such different age groups? I need to keep them in level with schooled peers to keep dh happy.

I really hope I can do this as i am so excited

Congrats on pulling them!!!
I wouldn't buy two sets of curriculum. I am definitely in favour of building your own. I think you could even do literacy together as well. My 4 year old loves to hear stories that my 12 year old is listening to. And my 12 year old will listen to stories that my 4 year old is. He will usually tell me that he used to "love" that story when he was the 4 year olds age.
I do think the numeracy would be best separate, but my 4 year old always wants to learn what the 12 year old is learning.
I wish you a wonderful homeschooling journey.
