Mean mean mama - Page 2

another good read...

Wow. Lots of good advice and love here. I too am struggling with how I react to my child and one book I found very helpful was Giving the Love That Heals (Hendrix). It helped me indentify my own issues so that I could overcome the pattern I kept repeating with my LO. It's hard, mama, to break cycles. Good for you for wanting better for yourself and your kids. Hugs and good luck- you can make the change!

Is the author Daniel Goleman? I had multiple results.

Thank you.

Thank you wise mamas it is nice to know that we are not alone and that there are so many mamas willing to share their knowledge and support
Ditto that! My ds is 5, and I also have a 3 week old. Sometimes I feel like the only way ds will listen - the only way I can get his attention - is to yell. And I feel like a horrible mom for it. I want nothing more than to love him positively to the extent he deserves to be loved and I feel ike I fail again and again.

s to op and pp's in similar states. Thank you to all for your suggestions. I will be looking into some of those books and strategies. I think the idea of sleep talk is interesting. I already do the affirmations of love while he sleeps; I think I'll try the other parts too.

I recommended the Emotional Intelligence book -- wow, didn't know that title led to a smorgy-board of similar books.

Goleman wrote the original book on the topic and that's a link

I'm pretty sure that the one I read on EQ and children was

http://www.amazon.com/Raising-Emotio...0067353&sr=1-2

I know it was by Goleman and another child psych dr. and it was written awhile ago, so I'm pretty certain that was the one. Libraries likely have these books and the are easy to get used.

I don't know anything about the tons of other books with Emotional Intelligence in the name. I just know these two books helped me personally on my journey from a moderately functional moderately angry mama to a calm and assertive mama.

It's amazing what lessons our LO's get to help us through. I thought for sure I had the skills to be a mother 8 years ago when I was first pregnant. But honestly, it took me all this time as a mother to become the mother I want to be. ON the job training??

hugs to you and your babies as we all grow.
