Lunches

Lately for lunch I've been taking leftovers. And that's ok - but it usually is something that requires reheating and thus, a microwave. I'd like to stop using the microwave for several reasons, one is the typical TF reason, and another is I like to go to a local walkign path on my lunch hour and cold chili (or whatnot) just doesn't do it for me.

Any ideas on a good take along, nuke free lunch? I can do cold chicken and some veggies a-ok, but I'm at a loss for anythign else. Oh and I strive to be grain-free/gluten free, but am not at 100%.

thanks!

I bring a lot of food to work with me because I work 10 hour days a couple of days a week, and if I don't bring my own, I rely on crappy non-food, or high carbs to get me through, and I don't want to do either.

I've been using a little thermos for leftovers, but I haven't found one that will keep things HOT for most of the morning. Just warm. But better than cold.

Otherwise, for almost the same reasons, I've been bringing:
hard-boiled eggs with a little container of salt
nuts and seeds and dried fruit combos
pastrami or salami and cheeses (liverwurst or such, if you like that)
a jar of raw milk or yogurt (do you have a fridge at work?)
olives
baked sweet potato
If I remember, I bring a little container of sauerkraut which shouldn't need to be refrigerated.
Around the holidays, I bring fruit and sweet things to keep me from eating all the crap (even the homemade stuff is definitely not real food) that's always around

We have a handy little kitchen at work, and there is a toaster oven and someone brought in a two-burner hot plate, so even though I get weird looks for not using the microwave, I can heat things up without it if I need to. If you have an area for either one of those, it's handy when all you want is hot soup.

Even an electric kettle at your desk will allow you to make a quick miso soup to put into a thermal mug and take it on the trail.
