I'm doing it, I'm really doing it! After a PL-ing failure w/ DD, who'd have thought?

Bit of short background... I tried ECing off and on w/ DD but I didn't spend enough time or start it early enough (she was 13 months at our first attempt and failure) or do it frequently enough, etc. And even now, she's not potty trained... but that's my internal drama for another thread.

Anyway now that I have a newbie, I thought I might give it another halfhearted try. DD never gave any signals or indications at all that she was going to go or had just gone or anything. But DS will stop nursing and pop on and off and then poop, then will finish nursing w/o popping on and off. Other times, he'll just poop. lol.

Anyway he took about a 3.5 hour nap today, and when he woke up, his diaper was sopping wet, but there was no poop in it. So I thought I'd give it a try. I took his old diaper off and then held him over the potty... and he got MAD MAD MAD. So I held a bigger diaper around him and grabbed a bowl and got comfy w/ him on the couch so I could nurse him. He was starving and wanted to eat.

He gulped down a bunch of air though and stopped nursing after a few minutes. So now that he had a little something in his tummy, I thought I'd give the toilet another try. He was still not too pleased to be there, but he was only "pouty" about it instead of MAD like he was earlier. I held him there for less than a minute and then the pee came!

I wasn't expecting pee, since his nap diaper was so soaked. And I didn't catch "all" of it b/c although I was trying to hold him down... well, you know how strong a little boy's stream can be, lol. But I did get most of it into the toilet. I was excited. Not sure if he was, though.

If I continue this, it will be very part-time b/c of about a million other things that I have going on, but I just wanted to share my excitement. It'll probably end up being the only thing I catch ever, but it's still neat for me today.

Eee and just now, I caught a #1 and a #2.

He was nursing, well doing the pop on and off thing... then he tooted, lol. So I was like ok boy, you're going to the potty. DD was awake now and wanted to come with us, and she wanted me to have him use her BBLP, so after some finagling to get us all comfortable, he went #1 and #2 in there. I was excited.

I caught some pee and poop again tonight after we got home from church. I only had to hold him over the potty for about a minute. This is kind of fun, lol. DH walked in about 10 seconds before DS did the bulk of his #2 and was greatly amused, lol.

Harmony96,

Keep it up! It sounds like you've got a natural. My son is 6.5 mos, and I've found that if I feed him when he wakes up, he'll hold the pee and most poop til he's done eating. If he can't hold it, he'll pop on and off and I'll take him to the potty and come back to eating after.

After a couple months of EC, he started waking up dry from most naps and many overnights as well. If he's hungry at all, it's not worth trying potty because he'll just cry and not go. I have not witnessed him peeing or pooping while nursing for several months. (we started at 7 weeks)

Congrats on your early success. I bet your daughter will be potty trained in a jiffy now!

I caught two more big poops today and two tiny poops (and in between there was only like 1-2 poops in a diaper). A couple of pees in there, too. This is kind of exciting. I had to change my subject line now since I've moved beyond the first catch. I didn't realize that I'd have so many catches right away that I'd already lose count, lol.

Now I wonder what my rather mainstream family will say next week when I tell them that DS can poop in the potty, LOL.

That's so cool that you're having such great success already! Have fun!
