CLE vs R&S for 1st Grade

Ok, so I know that we want to use Singapore math for sure. However, I am having trouble deciding between Christian Light Education and Rod & Staff for the remaining subjects. Can someone please explain what differences there are between the two? I noticed that R&S doesn't have a Social Studies program for first grade. I plan to start our school year in January.

TIA!!

subbing. i'd love a comparison as well. i currently use grade 2 R&S for english, geography, and math. we love it, but CLE english and math looks excellent too!

have you read the reviews at homeschoolreviews.com? they may help. i've read through them, and the forums there are helpful as well (that's where i read about CLE). hth.

ETA - not to add more choices, but christian liberty press is excellent too! we use their science books and nature readers. we love them!!!

Yes, I did read the reviews. There's SO many! I can't decide because they both have really good reviews!

any more thoughts?

I've looked through Rod and Staff but never used it. Not sure how first grade is but 2 and 3 were very handwriting intense. My dd really hates copy work and it seemed like there was a lot of it. I think it's thorough, well-written curriculum but just too much copy for us.

HTH!

we have R&S english (grade 2) and we do everything orally. it only takes a few minutes a day... so that's a thought as well. we don't use the other language arts books though (just english) ...so i'm not sure if that's doable with the other textbooks or not. the english book is easy though & it works well with my daughter.
