was this separation 'trauma'?

the other day my baby (11 mo) had a red penis, the whole thing was just red. the next day it was swollen and a bit redder, and something that we assumed at the time was pus came out (man it was yucky looking!). i did a search here and a thread matching what i was seeing indicated that it could be bacterial, so i put some bacitracin on it and decided to watch it for a few hours and see what happened. nothing, no change. so i gave him a bath with epsom salt and tto. that seemed to help a bit, so i continued to monitor and gave him another bath (and by bath i mean, he played in the water, no soap). by now it was bedtime so i put some more bacitracin on him (i had been putting it on at all diaper changes this whole day) and decide in the morning if he needed to be seen.

morning came and he was completely fine, no reddness, no swelling. and no more crankiness either!

so now im wondering--is that what separation trauma looks like?

yep!
Some have no noticable "symptoms" to go with separation-- it just gradually happens. Some get a bit red and sore and a bunch of smegma (the white pus looking stuff- it can be really smelly, too) will roll out.

And it can happen that way with girls, too! TMI that will make ya feel better-- when I was a young teen, my clitoral hood hurt, was red and swollen. Then when I wiped, white "crud" came out and it felt so much better. I thought tp had somehow gotten stuck under there I asked my gyno about it and she said it was totally normal, that my clitoral hood had separated from the clitoris and it was smegma... Amazing that a gynocologist would know about that with a girl, but most urologists are clueless when it comes to male foreskin

man, i'll tell ya, i'm not surprised so many boys are taken to the dr for 'infection'- i was pretty sure i was dealing with one. not sure enough to actually brave the medical community (it was a saturday, would've had to go to urgent care) though! i feel like i know quite a bit about intactness thanks in large part to this forum, but even i was nervous. and trust me, im not the sort to get nervous about medical stuff.

it makes me wonder how parents, and doctors for that matter, are supposed to know things like this. i would have never known had i not read about it here.

Have you read this thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 there are a few things mentioned there that you might not know about and if they happen they can freak you out as well. I prefer knowing what can happen so that if it does I know what to do and dont have to rely on the Dr's around here who know nothing about the intact penis, well nothing but how to cut on it
