If you could have read just one book to give you the general overview of homeschooling what would that book be????

below was the orig. post

Hi
I have a 15m DS. I may be jumping the gun a little here!! But I am really excited to start learing more about my different options for his education. I would love to hear about homeschooling the pre-school years, and activities for the really young ones. We currently do alot of "reading" he loves to look at his books, we go on outings, the zoo, Gymboree Play & Music. I am sure that we will not be doing a traditional preschool where he leaves me for the day. I have no educated opinion on Kindy and up yet, haven't done enough research. I know I would like to always homeschool him, but I need to find out way more before I can make those decisions. ANY tips or resouce recs would be awesome!!
Thanks

check into your state laws to see what you'd be getting yourself into later; read lots of books on homeschooling; check into local homeschool groups; join a few online forums about homeschooling (like this one); start doing some research on homeschooling styles and curriculum choices; start a list of useful websites that you want to access later, etc. i started all of this when my first son was one (he is almost 4 now) and i am SOO happy that i started early. i feel so much more prepared and knowledgeable. i have decided to homeschool my kids (i now have 3 kids under 4 yrs) because i took the time to really understand homeschooling and how it would be compatible with our family.
my advice is to go to amazon.com and search "homeschooling" and similar key words....tons of books will come up.....decide which you would like to buy and which you would like to borrow from the library, and start working your way through them. for now, i would just do lots of reading and age appropriate activities with him. my kids learned things like the alphabet REALLY early, but that's because they did fun things like play with foam letters in the bathtub and things like that.

I wouldn't worry much about resources at this point, because they'll have changed by the time you begin - but here's a catalog I love that can show you a wonderful array of the type of things you'll be able to find when the time comes - FUN-Books. Here's a good, annotated list of books about homeschooling and learning - clicking on titles will take you to the Amazon pages where you can usually "look inside" or "search inside" each book. I think just occasionally browsing through this forum over the next few years will provide a lot of information - but it will be a very long time before you'll have any need for more than general ideas about possibilities for the future.
