Best pocket diaper for slender babies/toddlers?

Thread Starter
I posted another question earlier about FB size large maybe being too big for my 30 lb. but slender-waisted 2 yo. I have also noticed in using my sampler pack of OS pockets on my younger son, 4 mo, I am snapping them on almost or the smallest setting. We tend to produce string beans, apparently. I have read (here and elsewhere) that some brands work better or worse for larger-framed kids -- in your experience, what is the best pocket diaper (one size preferred, but the most important thing is good fit w/ no leaks so I'll take any recs) for slender babies? My 4 mo is in the 75th percentile for height but below 50th for weight, if that provides any context, and the 2yo has a similar disparity, 50th height and 15th-25th weight. So they need a normal (not short) rise but tighter fit in the legs and waist. Which brand best fills the bill? Is aplix closure superior to snaps for babies with this build?

Nope, not aplix - you'll get wicked wing-droop. Anything side-snapping is your key. I am a huge fan of Green Acre Designs b/c they are side-snapping, awesome color combos, and they have really great sizing so you can find something that fits. Their medium-long is great for skinny toddlers and what my dd wear 90% of the time.

If you want a one-size, try the Knickernappies OneSize - they are side-snapping and so will fit a skinny kid better, and they are one-size. They also can get pretty big, unlike many one-sizes. This is what my dd wears the other 10% of the time.

The other benefit of side-snapping is that you can pre-snap them and the kid can pull them up and down like underwear.

ditto on GADs. They rock for my skinny ds (we use the medium long too).

my 9 mo DD is 10% for weight and 95% in length (28 inches and 17 lbs) and honestly I have had no problems with BG 3.0 aplix, Happy Heinys aplix, OR new style Fuzzi Bunz (she is still in size Small at the smallest waist snaps!). GroBaby worked for her too. We just got the new Flip system with organic inserts and have had good luck so far, although the BG snap design always wing droops on her (we had BG Organic AIO and they leaked every time and drooped).

For some reason the side snap diapers infuriate me. Too many flaps folding and going this way and that.

BGOS 3.0 or the organic AIOs fit my skinny minnies well. The problem I have with OS dipes is that there's always a period where the smaller setting is too small and the larger one is too big and then you get leaks.

If you're open to AIOs, the new Imse Vimse AIO with snaps is awesome. They do not leak. They are trim and comfortable. They wash well and dry fast. My only complaint with them is that they don't have a range of cute colors!

I like the fit of Rocky Mountain Diapers on my slender 3 yr old. I wish the rise was a little taller. but the adjustable leg elastics are great, and the one-size design has me hoping they'll work for the new babe.

DS1 is skinny and bg's have worked OK for him so far and are going great for DS2
