S/O - Sugar scrubs

I saw on the frugal holiday contest thread that someone made a post about a sugar scrub?

In my single days, I used to get salt scrubs (through Bath and Body, I think) that always felt so good and rejuvenating, but my attempts at home have been costly with salt and they never turned out to be a very good product. I was wondering about the sugar scrub someone mentioned in the contest thread. Wouldn't the sugar dissolve? How do you keep it granulated in a liquid? Being so much more economical, I'd love to have the sugar scrub recipe, if you are willing to post it... whomever you are.

It wasn't me in the thread, but I made my own yesterday with decent results.

I used a heaping Tablespoon of solid coconut oil, melted it in the microwave, then added sugar until it had the right consistency. It was a little too grainy, so I dumped in some olive oil. Wasn't really an exact science, but it works really well and the sugar didn't dissolve , so I guess I'm on the right track.

wasn't me either but i have made sugar lip scrubs/exfoliators before by mixing olive oil, sugar and almond or orange extract. no heating, just mix together. great for chapped lips in the winter. The extract is to cover the taste of the olive oil.

Do you just use regular (cheap ) granulated sugar?

Yup.

What about for gift giving though? Coconut oil doesn't really keep well as it solidifies in cold winter months. Mine hasn't been a liquid in . . . . .well, I can't even tell you how long. Not an issue for me as I use it anyway, but people not in the know about it may think it has gone bad.

My sugar scrub: brown sugar.

I take a scoop into the bathroom with me and exfoliate in the shower with it

I've made them before with raw sugar for a larger grain but you could use regular sugar too with either olive oil or almond oil & some essential oils. It works fine & doesn't dissolve, but it does make your tub super slippery.

I've made my own scrub before by mixing brown sugar with honey. The sugar exfoliates; the honey has qualities that make your skin glow. I've never made a big batch, only enough at a time for a single use. It works for me!

I make one that is great and not so slippery. I usually make up some jars of it for family, since it is a bit of a process.

1c Canola, Olive, Almond, Whatever Oils
1/3 C grated natural soap (dr bronners, homemade, whatever)
2c sugar

Melt the grated soap in the oil on the stove top, in the microwave or doubleboiler. Remove from heat and add any essential oils, then stir in sugar. Sometimes I adjust the consistency, more or less sugar, etc.. but it is a great simple recipe.

Does the soap keep it from being so slippery? That is a great idea!

i do a sugar scrub. i use either brown sugar or demetura sugar, almmond or grapeseed oils and essential oils just a couple of drops. mix well. i prolly use about a cup of sugar and mix in oil until its fairly wet. the sugar doesnt desolve. and it is v. v. nice. but your tub WILL become slippery.
