UPDATE

Maddy graduated to the intermediate nursery today!! I was also able to breastfeed her too (mixed results). They found the source of the fever - the central line they put in got infected and so she is on a regimen of antibiotics. Sadly, it delays her homecoming but each day with no bad news is another day I come close to believing my baby will be home soon I think I will be terrified of her getting sick when I get her home but the social worker in NICU said this is a natural reaction.

Oh, I'm so glad you got to breastfeed! I'm sure it will get easier the more you get to do it.

And the germs she'll be exposed to at home are probably safer than anything in the hospital...look at it that way!

You and your family have been in my thoughts! I am SO glad to hear this latest news! I am thrilled you got to breastfeed. It sounds like she is really progressing well and will be home soon-- though I am sure "soon" cannot be soon enough for you!

Do you have any help? I am hoping that you have a good support system in place through all of this. In this day and age, it's hard to find support (which is why I love places like MDC) but hopefully you do IRL.

Yay for a good update! What a strong girl you have there. I hope the breastfeeding gets better and better.

Yay mama! That's so huge!!! Kate graduated yesterday right before I was discharged. There's so much less beeping in Level II!!!

Man, the antibiotics suck, inasmuch as they have their timetable and that's that. But it's such good news that they figured out where the fever was coming from. I BEGGED them to let me take her home and bring her in twice a day for the antibiotics. Sadly, it's just not possible.

We're actually contemplating bringing Kate home soon, and I was trying to figure out which outfit we could bring to put her in that would go over the IV in her hand and the pulse ox monitor on her foot...and then my mom reminded me that when we go home it will be WITHOUT ANY TUBES OR WIRES AT ALL!!!!!! You and your family will for sure be in my thoughts until your stay is over as well.

And I TOTALLY get you on the "seriously stay away from my baby with that cough unless you want to die." I never ever ever ever ever want my baby to have to be in the hospital ever ever ever ever again. While I realize that's a completely unrealistic goal, I'm definitely going to be overprotective for a while!

mama. While we'll never get these first few days back with our LOs, this WILL all be over soon and we can begin the true healing. Thinking of you!
