New Moon (movie)

So, what did you think? Loved it? Hated it? Too close to the book or not close enough? What was your favorite part? Least favorite?

My least favorite part was the music. The score was great, but the bands they chose this time around (with the exception of Muse) just didn't do it for me.

I really loved all the wolves. I thought they were great and I just loooooooove wolves! Also, Harry's "don't worry, I have kung fu" comment was hilarious. And Charlie, oh I do love that guy.

I really liked how they did the whole "November. December" thing. When I saw those pages for the first time in the book it absolutely chilled me to the bone, and I think they did a great job of conveying the darkness there. I'm still not thrilled with Kristen Stewart, but I think she did a better job this time.

I am disappointed with Edward! They showed Jacob shirtless so many times that it was a real disappointment when Edward came out shirtless. Bummer.

I also really enjoyed Emmett, Alice (did not like her the first movie), Dr. Cullen (as always!) and Aro's character. Dakota Fanning did okay but I would have liked to see more of her. The wolf brothers did a great job, sometimes they were a little stilted but I really liked seeing all the guys and them joking around and stuff.

Overall, I liked it twice as much as Twilight the movie and I would go see it again, and I'll buy it when it comes out on DVD for sure Now I want to get me a wolf necklace in the shape of the tattoo Jacob had.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I want to so bad! I can't get into the Jacob love because, to me, that actor will always be Shark Boy! I'm glad the girl who played Bella did a better job. I didn't like the first one that much because I didn't think she could act that well.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I LOVED the wolves! They were great! Funny and the CGI was amazing!!! The acting and special effects were wonderful. Taylor did a GREAT job! Aro was fantastic! Sheen did SO well! A great mix of crazy and scary!! Loved the ending too!!

I didn't like the music either. I didn't feel like they portrayed the depth of Bell's despair or the intensity of her relationship with Jacob until the last scene. I didn't like the way Edward told Bella everything before they faced the Volturi! I love the scene so much in the book where she thinks she's still dreaming and he has to convince her she's awake and that he loves her.

Overall I'm pleased!! I want to see it again now that I'm not so nervous about them screwing it up. The acting was just SO MUCH better this time!! Lots of comic relief too!!

The craziest part for me was the midnight showing. People were just being ugly about getting the best seats, etc. I know those are the hardcore fans but everyone was going to get a seat!! No need to be ugly!

I can't wait to see it again!!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. I really felt like I couldn't have hoped for better. The acting was overall so much better this time. Robert and Kristen really nailed it. The moment when he's he's about to leave... he'd looked so hard and callous (for the purpose of the lie) and his face just momentarily crumples when he kisses her head. you just feel his pain in a way you couldn't in the book since it was from her pov. just flawless, and heartbreaking for both of them.

I think the adaptation was really excellent. I didn't miss what they had to cut, and the slight changes and additions really worked well.

It was really funny! I wasn't expecting that because the book is such a downer, but they did a wonderful job with lightening the mood a bit, and I think the movie needed that in order to be emotionally bearable.

The special effects were great. I didn't laugh out loud at the vampire movements like I did in Twilight and the wolves were done so well that it didn't really take you out of the moment by looking obviously cgi'd. Obviously you could tell, but it wasn't distracting and that's all I hoped for. And the phasing was INCREDIBLE!

A lot of people were unhappy with the score, but honestly, I appreciate a score that is subtle and doesn't take you out of the movie. I thought the Twilight score was way way too much, totally overbearing, and made the whole movie seem kind of campy and over the top when it didn't need to be. But also, this is the only place, now that I'm thinking about it more, that I might have made a change. I DID miss Bella's lullaby. Such a beautiful song, and I wish his bday gift had made it into the film. Her finding it gone was a really important moment. I don't think I heard it anywhere. BUT, I can live without it because everything else made up for it. Hopefully we'll hear it again in the next films.

I could say much much more but I should probably stop now. YAAAYY!! It was exactly what I hoped for and more. Wish I could justify spending the money to see it again soon.

I'll be back with more to say, but I was kinda disappointed...will be seeing it again and will more than likely fall in love with it eventually.

real quick....I saw it with my 16 year old Team Jacob daughter (I'm Team Edward)

we were reduced to babbling silly girls every time we saw Jake without a shirt on..he's definitely a 10. When Edward stepped out without his shirt on my daughter said "I'm going to give him a solid 6" and we both burst out laughing.

I'd say she was right about that.

14 y.o. dd saw it last night and loved it. Said they got it just right. (I haven't read/won't be reading New Moon.)

I read that Robert Pattinson was pretty self-conscious about the, uh, disparity between his bod and Taylor Lautner's.

I took my 11yo DSD to see it at midnight last night. She loved it, I liked it more than I thought I did. I liked it better than the first movie. The second book was my favorite. I'm totally Team Jacob . I wish that they played up Jake & Bella's relationship in the movie as much as in the book, but other than that, I was pleased.

I have a 33 yo daughter and two 19 yo daughters. We all went to see it at the midnight showing. Our experience there was a really good one. Got there at 8:45 pm and the line was already enormous! Felt like I was in a line for Disneyland in the summer...well except the line didn't move till 10:30 pm AND it COLD! But everyone in line was in a great mood, we all laughed and joked with each other. And the way the theater handled things, there was no pushing and shoving to get the best seat. They started seating at 10:30, letting so many at a time in and put color-coded wrist bands on us, with our theater number on it. It played in all 10 theaters and everyone got a good seat.
As for the movie, we all loved it! Thought Kristen Stewart was awesome, as was Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The scenes were so compelling that you could feel the pain they were experiencing. Most especially in Kristen's eyes.
Loved the wolves and their interaction with each other. You got a real sense of their "brotherhood".
A couple of us were "Team Edward", one was "Team Jacob" and one was, as she put it to me, "Team both". LOL.
I also liked that it had a bit of humor. And I too loved the way they set up the whole scene with the months passing as Bella sat in the chair.
I wasn't all that excited with the music either. But All in all it was great! We're planning on seeing it again.

You guys are making me even more excited to see it tonight. I will post again w/my review!
the scene where the months passed nearly made me and my daughter sick! It was well done, maybe the nausea was what the director was going for?>
post #11 of 54
I love reading all the comments. I just got home from the movie. I'm sort of disappointed, but overall it was good.

I LOVED the wolves, like someone said. And now I've switched from Team Edward to Team Jacob. Edward's too white and hairy for me, lol. And he doesn't seem real to me...he seems pretty fickle, like he's just going to leave her again. I didn't feel like he really portrayed love, just coldness and maybe cockiness.

I am sad it ended that way too. I read the books over a year ago so I didn't remember it being like that, but it was sad to have it end so abruptly, though I know they do it on purpose.

Agreed. Couldn't he have buffed up...and waxed?? Lol...
Hey now don't be hatin on the manfur Jacob was looking fab, but the boy is only 17, so he is off limits for me. I am definitely team Robward.

I thought the months passing scene was really good, intense and the scene in the movie theater on the steps almost made me cry. I can't wait to see it again when I am more awake, I know I will find more and more to like.

I just got back from seeing it and I dunno, I felt like it was kinda choppy and if I hadn't read the book and knew the back story I would have been lost and they cut most of the scenes to short, like Bella's birthday party, granted its been a year since I read the book but I felt that it should have been a much longer scene, especially the discussion between Carlisle and Bella about Edward not wanting to turn her because he didn't want to take her soul. Then they showed Edward taking out the picture but they left out the part where she realized he took everything. I did like the wolves though and the phase thing was awesome. I cracked up about the comment from one of the wolf pack about "Jake was right, you do do weird good" or something like that to Bella. I have to admit, I liked the Cullens in Twilight but this time around they just seemed to fake, from the over the top pale makeup to the clothes. I dunno, at this point I think I'm moving from Team Edward to Team Jacob. Over all though I think I spent the first few minutes crying and the rest laughing.
Oh I did think the Cullens were a tad too pale. They lost some of the "beautiful" there. And Rosalie's wig was AWFUL!! It didn't look good at all! I forgot about that.

Overall I still loved it and I'm itching to see it again!! DH mentioned wanting to see it today so I got a babysitter for tomorrow afternoon! I can't wait to see it again! I think I'll like it better the second time and I can pay more attention to the little subtle things. Plus I won't be so tired from it being the wee hours of the morning!!

Personally I'm Team Jacob. He's just totally my type. But Bella belongs with Edward. I hvae to say that the disparity between Jacob and Edward shirtless was obvious!!
Loved it!
Rosalies wig was horrible and the red lips on the Cullens were even MORE horrible but overall this director nailed it!

Did you guys like the "running" parts better this time? I did! In the first one when they were trying to show the speed of the vampires, it looked LAME but his time, blurring the characters made it look pretty good!

I like that New Moon actually told most of the story, Twilight wasnt good, most of the stuff was left out and it was so short and rushed!

ETA: Im team Both, but after seeing a shirtless Jacob, I think he might be more my "type" lol.

Oh good point Lindsay! The running in Twilight was just awful but I thought they did a MUCH better job this time. The whole catching Jasper thing was pretty neat too, how they tackled him just in time.

Yeah I was Team Edward...till I saw this movie Heh heh heh.

I'd like to see it again, but I'll probably wait till after the holidays. I also think the birthday scene should have been longer, and it never really showed how everything of Edward's was gone. That should have been at least mentioned instead of just implied. You know?

Still room for the movie to get better, obviously, but that's what Eclipse is for

I didn't get that either. His body is supposed to be made of stone yet while the volturi were roughing him up, his lower belly kept jiggling.

Now, don't get me wrong - he's perfectly fine the way he is but, you'd think for purposes of this movie, they would have encouraged him to have his body more chiseled. Not to compete with Jacob because, well, Jacob is a wolf but, at least to be true to the books and especially what's coming - with Bella being all bruised up by his chiseled body.

That being said, I can't stand Jacob. I get the whole body thing but, the character both in the books and in the movie was so whiny and needy. It irritated me. So, an entire movie essentially about Jacob was too much for me.

But, I though the acting was so much better this time. Overall, I liked it. But, I'm really looking forward to the next ones.
I really, really liked it!

My biggest gripe was Victoria's hair ( it wasn't anywhere near the color of her hair in the last movie!) It was too unnaturally red, even for a vampire.

Jacob's wig looked much better than it did in Twilight.

They did a great job with the three months that passed, showing Bella sitting by the window. Sniff.

The way they showed Bella as a vampire wasn't what I had pictured at all...

But all in all I really enjoyed it and will go again.

After all the Harry Potter movies and the three LOTRs movies, I've learned to not read the books too close to when I go to see the movies and just roll with it...they are separate things...although I will never forgive Peter Jackson for The Flaming Denethor.

Saw NM last night and thought it was good overall.

Likes:
-Taylor really stepped up as Jacob. He was great.
-Jacob AND Edward were totally hot. They have completely different bodies/looks and can't even be compared.
-Rob did a great job as usual portraying Edward's conflicting emotions.
-I liked Kristen as Bella in Twilight but I thought she was even better in NM. She really stepped it up too.
-All of the special effects were done really well, and better than the last movie.

Dislikes:
-Alice just isn't believable to me, don't like her in the movie like I do in the books
-HATED when Bella jumped on that strange guy's motorcycle. Totally lame. That whole scene was not done well at all.
-Bella's narration should have just been simple narration and not through undelivered emails to Alice. It would have been simpler, more believable, and allowed us to better understand how Bella was feeling.
-I feel like they jumped into the story too fast. In the book it told how the summer was the happiest time for Bella. It seemed like it jumped from prom in Twilight to Bella's birthday w/no in btw.
-Edward just seemed really fickle bc we didn't get much of him. In the book I completely understood his reason for leaving, but in NM it seems like it comes from nowhere. There's no setup.

I don't know, I guess I am a little dissapointed. They could have done it soooo much better. I loved it bc I am a fan and I will def buy the movie and watch it over and over, but....IDK. I heard it was better than Twilight but I didn't think so. (I like Twilight BTW).
