side nursing=pain

Hi:

My DS is 6 months old. Still waking at night (ugghh). It seems from posts that that is going to continue....
We co-sleep, and i side nurse him, but it has from the beginning, and still does, IT HURTS. During the day in the cradle hold it does not. I am just too tired, i can't sit up more than once a night (so if he would cut his wakings to one, then all would be good) So i have to side nurse to even sort of get some sleep, but with the pain its not really like i am even kind of sleeping.
I posted a while ago in nighttime parenting, but i thought that i would try here.
ANY thoughts on what i can do to make it not hurt???? What am i doing wrong???
I have been to LLL, i have been to a (good) LC. Neither were any help.
We have a new (1.5 yo) mattress, firm. I am a small C (was a B before)
I put my arm now under his head, rather than under my pillow (per the LC), that seems to make it a little less painfull, but not really, although that does keep my arm from falling alseep, which is good.
Is it my DS, what is he doing wrong, and why can't he fix it?

Anyone? Am i the only one that finds side nursing painful?
This needs to get better, or he needs to stop nursing at night (more than once), one or the other.....

Maybe one of the alternative methods here will work for you: http://www.mother-2-mother.com/tut-layingdown.htm

I have the same issue. I found that supporting my breast helps. Since I'm on my side, the side of my breast sinks into the bed, and so my dd doesn't latch straight on. If I use my free hand to lift and and support the breast a bit, she is more centered and that reduces the pain. It's still not completely comfortable, but it helps alot - enough so I can nurse and still get some sleep.
