I left work at 4:45 last night, (11/19) took 40 minutes to walk the mile home because I was having contractions, had 2 1/2 hours of labor, and our new baby son was born at home in the water at 8:03 p.m. It was perfectly representative of our house - a little chaotic, but we got the job done. On my end, labor was very efficient. I could feel my cervix dilating and baby pushing my tailbone out as they got more intense and closer. DH got the birth tub set up and filled just in time, the midwives arrived right when I needed them for extra support, my wonderful sister took care of DS1 during the hardest parts of labor but they were both present for the birth itself, and even our very sensitive 12 1/2 year old dog, who I had been worried would be upset, sat on the bed next to me through contractions and wanted to again when the midwives were doing the postpartum and well baby exams, being the concerned and steady nurse-dog he has been in the past when I have been ill. This is great timing on the baby's part because DH has next week off from teaching, and sis will be here until next Tuesday, so we can enjoy some family time together as we get to know our newest member of the household.
stats: 9lbs, 1 oz, 21.5 in., 37 cm head, no damage to mama
for water!
If you want the loooong story, here's a link.
I might need someone to take over the birth announcement list as our internet is sporadic (pirated wifi)...and more than that, I just can't get it together to go online on a daily basis.
