My daughter will be 14 months old in a few days, and is on a MAJOR potty strike.
She's never pee'd on cue, and catches have always been rare. She will however, sit on her potty (often by herself) for long-ish periods of time (and not do anything in it). About a month ago, we had some success with gerber training underwear, where she would go sit on the potty and pee (maybe once per day), then stand up and look at the tiny little puddle that leaked through the undies (meanwhile dripping all over the floor). Every other miss was a puddle on the floor.
This went on (and off) for about a week.
Since then however, she's FLAT OUT REFUSING to to sit on her potty, unless on her own will (which is always during play). What's strange is that she's also fighting diaper changes (do NOT lay her down to diaper her up), and while she seems to have no problem with training underwear, they're leaving puddles all over the place. And truth be told, I don't want to have to watch her for leaks every second of the day. Nor do I want her getting used to the feeling of wet undies.
What's also strange is her routine for MONTHS was to sit on the potty when she woke up, after meals (mornings were our highest success), after bath, after naps, etc. She'd rarely pee in it, but she knew that when she was done eating/drinking/waking/etc, she was supposed to go sit on the potty. And often did so all by herself.
She used to point to the potty (then sign potty) when you ask her where the peepee goes, but if you ask her where it goes now, she points to her diaper.
I managed to have her sit yesterday for QUITE some time (45 minutes?) by putting a tray of food in front of her and placing the potty in front of the tv. She felt the sensation of elimination and stood up to point into the potty ("That!"). In the potty was two DROPS of pee, but in her mind, she was done and was having NONE of sitting back down. Sure enough, she had a full pee a few minutes after coming off.
She also used to tell me when she was wet either by complaining, patting her diaper, or going to sit on the potty after a pee (only sometimes), and a few times, she brought the potty to me. As a test, I left her to multiple pees in a cloth diaper thinking she would tell me when it got really wet. She didn't.
Is this normal behavior for an EC'd baby?? And how long does it last???
