Does DS (9 months) wake up to pee?

Yes, he still wakes every 2 hours to nurse. At 9 months he's still almost exclusively breastfed, and I have, erm, a small storage capacity, so I'm fine with nursing him every 2 hours.

But, since he's been about 7 months old, he wakes, sometimes to feed but sometimes between feedings, and then I feel his diaper get warm.

Is this something I should be addressing -- that is, taking advantage of -- as a step towards potty training? Should I get him out of bed for this?

Recently we've been encouraging DS to pee in the sink with the water running, but with no consistent schedule -- just because it's fun to watch the arc of pee. Theoretically this will become potty training as well.

DS does not walk, but he crawls and cruises.

Ideas?

We've done EC with DD, and we found that that is the way she works. Some EC-ed babies seem to wake up with a need to pee, and some just don't. DD, specifically, will settle back to sleep quicker if she's been on the potty, and, from six months onward, usually woke up dry next time. (Some EC-ed babies are just not interested in the potty at night).

Anyway, we use a pottybowl:

It is easy to keep by the side of the bed, and easy to pop under the child in bed, without either of us having to get out.

If I were you I'd try it (maybe with a bowl or other receptacle if you don't want to order without trying), and see how it works for you and your child. It sounds like if your child, like mine, holds on until awake and relaxing? He might appreciate the opportunity to get it over with in a potty!

Yes, 9 months is an age where many babies wake to pee. When dd woke, I put her on a Baby Bjorn little potty that I kept at the end of the bed and nursed her til she relaxed and peed, then back to bed. It was great and she often would then sleep longer stretches because she was more comfortable.
