Anyone have a Dyson, and do you use this funky tool?

I've had this Dyson for 7 years now, found this tool at the back of the closet and gave it a whirl. It seems really difficult to use! I wonder if I'm doing something wrong because it seems like I can only go one direction: backwards. I place it on the floor and pull it towards me. If I push forward the suction is broken and it skids.
Anyone know what I mean?

I did a little more research on the web and found people are pretty dissatisfied with it, for the same reasons I described. It gets a great suction on flat surfaces, but then you can't move it. Plus it seems like it might be scratching the surface. And in order to make really maneuverable around corners it's really loose, which makes it, well, floppy.
