If you have Singapore math 4A US edition. . .

Can you help me out? I have the text and the workbook and usually that is fine. However, today we were doing Review 2 and on pg 64, #21 we ran into a snag. I am able to do the word problem, but I used algebra. How does the teacher's guide show how to set that problem up. I am narrow minded, and loved algebra so it tends to be my default with math story problems even when unnecessary. However, I usually can figure out the "non-algebra" way too. But, for some reason, with this problem I am not seeing it.

Thanks,

Amy

2500 people = x children + 4x adults
2500 = 5x
x = 500
4 times 500 = 2000 adults
2000 - 1200 men = 800 women

I didn't see much more than that in the teacher's guide.

cool, thanks

That is basically what I did but I didn't write out words for children and adults so I think it may have looked more confusing.
