Any night weaned babies who still don't sleep?

Please don't flame me, I'm sick (pneumonia) and can't get well again with my LO waking every 1-2 hours throughout the night. He's 10.5 months and while I'm not going to wean yet, I'm thinking about it at 12 months. I'm in pretty bad shape - insomnia and depression on top of constant illnesses - all because of the frequent night waking of my LO.

My question is, will night weaning even help? Are there night weaned babies/children out there who still don't sleep? My DS doesn't always want to nurse when he wakes, nor does it always send him back to sleep (mostly he does, and mostly it does however). So part of me thinks, well if I wean him and then he still doesn't sleep, I've lost one way of getting him back to sleep quickly.

Is night weaning really the answer? Just read Jay Gordon's method and it sounds like BLISS.

Yep, I've got one. DD2 stopped nursing at night right after she turned 2, my milk dried up with a pg. She is 3 and still wakes up at night, how many times varies. Could only be once or 5+. It really sucked once I didn't have any milk (she flat out refused to nurse at night after that happened) and she still woke up, I was left with holding her hand and stroking her back trying to get her to go back to sleep. She sleeps with DH now and now he does those things since I've got the baby now.

I do bfing support and this isn't uncommon. For some kids, they don't wake to nurse, they nurse because they woke up. It is one of those things that you can' t tell ahead of time.

With my oldest, nightweaning was a miracle. It really helped her sleep. (We did it at about two.)

With my second, any attempts at nightweaning only meant that we were both awake even more, and she was yelling most of the time. I finally gave up and started nursing at night again, which was a much better plan with her.

I attempted nightweaning and it made things a lot worse. I held in there for 5 nights, and each night got progressively worse. The fifth night she was up for 5 hours straight. She literally has no idea how to fall asleep without the boob... she doesn't even get the picture that it is sleeping time. It seemed like she was very confused as to why I was telling her to sleep without her "neenees." It was a mess and it took a good 2 weeks to get back to our normal pattern of waking only 4-5 times a night...
