I think that I am just getting over the (swine) flu. My husband and I chose to not get ourselves or our kids vaccinated. My MIL said to me yesterday (when I was still feeling kinda yucky) "so do you wish now that you would have gotten the vaccine?"
I think that she was surprised that I said no. We have many reasons for not getting the vaccine. One area that I am wondering about is about the extent of immunity offered from getting the flu vs. the vaccine. I am under the impression that I have more extensive immunity having had the flu. Am I mistaken? She said that the vaccine offers the same protection as having had the flu. I realize that the flu is constantly mutating and that I'll haver to keep getting the flu to maintain immunity, but does my immunity last longer? Like, in 20 yrs, for example, I've still retained my immunity, but would immunity from a vaccine still be in one's system?
Any other helpful information and links would be appreciated
Thanks!
