I made the banana everything cookies this morning and they came out great- subbed melted Earth Balance for the oil since we were out and they are fine! There are a ton more recipes I want to try soon (especially the cookies with the pretzel bits and dried apples) but I was wondering if anyone else has a favorite out of the book by now

I have it, but haven't decided what to make first. Everything looks so amazing. Especially the salted pecan bars. Wow!

Those look AMAZING... like an easier-to-make pecan pie (which I miss.) Can't wait to try those either!

I made the classic cocoa brownies. They were very good, if not quite as chewy as the dairy and egg varieties that I used to make.

Isa is Isa Chandra Moskowitz.... she writes some of the most awesome vegan cookbooks out there:

Her most recent publication is a cookie cookbook

Just a note on those brownies, they got a whole lot better after sitting for 24 hours. I've noticed that that is often the case with vegan baked goods.

I'm so on the fence with getting this. I know it'll be amazing and the kids are really wanting to make cookies for the holidays, but I gained 10 lbs with the cupcake book and really want to head away from that direction.

Alrighty... so I made the pecan bars (sans salt) for Thanksgiving yesterday and they were the favorite dessert with my family out of everything I made They are SUPER gooey and messy.... and stuck to the tin foil despite my spraying cooking spray on it. Next time I make them I will find a more hardcore way to grease the foil!

Do you think parchment paper would work better than foil?

It might... but with the tin foil, I didn't have a roll wide enough to cover the 9x13 pan in one sheet and had to cover it with two pieces stretched very tightly around the edges and corners to make sure the seam saw tight.... I'd be afraid you wouldn't be able get a tight seal around the joining of the two pieces of parchment and the hot caramel goo would leak onto the pan, and that would be an even bigger mess to clean.

I see. I might just have to by a gigantic roll of aluminum foil to make them!

I think if you take shortening or margarine and grease the heck out of the foil you'll be fine... We used cooking spray and I think DH used it a little too sparingly to keep the caramel from sticking.

The regular Reynolds parchment that I find at the grocery store is 15 inches wide.

That would probably work. The roll I had at home was like 12 inches or so wide.

Tonight is the last night of the Barnes & Noble sale and I'm on the fence as to which to get! I'm on the waiting list for her new brunch book, and now the cookie book! (I've been out of the loop!)
