| ...The cure for the cord or ligament with draws back the tongue consists of sectioning it transversely so that the tongue is freed from its attachment, as reported by Abulcasis. A pack with vitriol should be placed against it to prevent reunion. If one is in doubt about this treatment because of the veins, Avicenna recommends that the cord by ligated with a needle and thread until it ruptures of its own accord. According to Lanfranchi it may also be cauterized by cutting it with a red-hot silver razor. |
