The Episcopal Church?

Are there any mamas out there who are not strongly Christian, but still attend an Episcopal church? I went to an Episcopalian highschool, was a choir nerd there--just really identified with and loved the church. I was very strong in my Christian faith then. Over the past ten years I've really begun to question God and Jesus and even flirted with atheism. I think now I'm sort of agnostic?? On beliefnet I scored 100% UU and Secular Humanist. I had been attending a uu church off and on for a year, and although dd loves the Sunday School, it just isn't working for me anymore. I've started thinking about making a change, and I've been considering the Episcopal church. Although I am not a strong believer, I love the liturgy, the music, and I see a lot of spiritual value in communion. Do you think I could feel comfortable in an Episcopal church? I visited one last spring, and it was nice but felt very Evangelical-ish--too much so for me. I also got a little nervous when I saw they do catechism in Sunday School. Is that standard?

TIA,

I'd shop around for Episcopal churces. I grew up Episcopalian and I thought it was a very good church. It is open enough and closed enough and rather safe in my opinion. Yes, you can find very evengelical episcopalians as well as very traditional but I think there are a lot of middle of the road options as well. The sermons are generally broad based and pastors liberal.

The church I grew up in was actually pastored by Robert W Duncan. If you are familiar with church politics he was recently cut off from the American Episcopal Chruch due to his very conservative beliefs when it comes to homosexuals among other things. He seemed like a great guy at the time but by the time he left he had completely torn apart a beautiful thing. Point I'm trying to make? There have been other priests that have come in and put it back together again nicely. To the point families who had transferred out have transferred back in. Took some time but there many very wonderful episcopal priests that are just that good.

I've moved a bit and tried different Episcopal churches and they have been differernt but generally, you could probably not believe in God at all and basically fit in with all the other stuff going on. I know many multi-faith families that have found a happy home in Episcopalian churches even after trying UU.
