So I was thinking about posting a question about how to teach my 27month old, co-sleeping, night nurser how to get to sleep. I've been wanting-waiting for him to magically start to fall asleep and stay asleep
without nursing. (it would really help my marriage to have some time together!) I have asked ds if he wants me to teach him to sleep by himself and, surprisingly he says yes. I haven't done it and I realized I don't really know how. I've read NCSS and understand about all the patting and cuddling and rocking, etc. I've also read about nightweaning, but not sure I'm up for it and I guess I've had some hope that it wouldn't be necessary(ds loves nursing). DS has a great vocabulary and I'm pretty convinced he understands almost anything I say. It occurred to me that perhaps I should just describe my process of falling asleep and that might be how I teach him to fall asleep/stay asleep on his own.
So, have you ever just talked to your young child about how to fall asleep and did it work, or do you think it might work? He's definitely showing interest in the idea of falling asleep on his own. What do you think? Crazy? Or crazy enough it just might work?
