I'm from East Coast USA and not at all familiar with your area but check out this list:
http://www.eatwild.com/products/canada.html#BC
Cowichan Bay Farm seems like it's in your area, and maybe you'll find others too.
You can also check this out:
http://www.localharvest.org/search.j...&zip=V5K%200A1
(If that link doesn't work just go to www.localharvest.org and search your area).
Even if the farmers market in Vancouver isn't convenient for you as a regular trip, it might be worth going there once if you have problems finding local farms - and then you can ask around. All the farmers in my area know each other and can point me to whatever I'm looking for closest to me.

thanks! i've already got an email into cowichan bay farm asking for info. my mom is in victoria and can scout out the farmers there at the markets, or maybe the bulletin boards in health food stores. oh you've given me lots of ideas. there's probably a perfect place out there that doesn't have a web site, kwim?

I'm glad you've got ideas
Yes, I've noticed a good percentage of farms don't have websites (but a lot do, at least just a page). But as I mentioned, farmers know each other in a given region. At least the ones in my area do; but there is a strong local eating movement in my area so it might be different if it's not as strong in yours. Though since you are close to the authors of the year of local eating book ("Plenty"), it might actually be part of the culture there too!
