I get excieted about breastfeeding in public, you too?

I dont know why it is, maybe my inner lactivist is shining through, but i get so excieted to breastfeed in public! I guess im guilty of making the point and cannot wait for the day when someone makes a cover up comment to me, ill either use the "why dont you put a blanket over your head" or use the "ontario provincial law states that a mother can breastfeed her child........." I feel so proud and skilled that i can pull it off. I was breastfeeding while walking around the mall today, i got a few double takes but had a few smiles from other older women. And in tim hortons i, not on purpose but sat in front of the drive thru side...oh well. I do have one of those kushies nursing canopies...more like a adult bib. I cant say i like it, and carter gets P.O'ed and hot. Im still a modest girl, i dont want people to see my boobs, im still mastering the art, im only 3months in, but im so proud to show off me and carter doin our thing

I totally know what you mean

I get lots of interested looks when I'm nip, some dissaproving glances, but I am also proud to "represent"!

I am no longer BF, but I totally loved it when I was! My favorite: nursing my 6 mo DS in the stands in the middle of a major league baseball game!

I totally do! I have a conversation stored up in my head to have with anyone who has anything to say about it. Bad, I know.

I guess it never dawned on me to be excited about it...I did it so often that it was just a normal part of life. I rarely was in public when I didn't nurse, and we're in public a lot.

Not exactly the same but when I was pregnant DH saw a report on a nurse-in at Denny's. He looked right at me and said "You can't wait until you can particpate can you? This is what we will be doing on our weekends, huh?" I just smiled. He has turned out to be a great lactivist.

you know, it's funny, but i actually do get excited. my mother BF all four of her kiddos, but she was a car feeder - i don't think ever BF in public, she always went to the van. i find that totally inconvenient, and frankly, quite boring to just sit there in the car while BFing. i'd rather keep doing what i'm doing!

it was very uncomfortable for me at first - not because it embarrassed me, but because i didn't want to embarrass other people. but i could care less now. i've fed in a grocery store, book store, airport, church, restaurant, dr's office... and my list is growing! every time i BF in public, i have this hope in the back of my head that i'm helping it become the norm again in america, as little an action as it seems.

this is when I realise that living in europe makes life a little easier, we just nurse anywhere and did so until ds and dd were around 3 years old, I'm not sure how I would handle this issue, as it's never been an issue - KWIM? Or I guess I've had a couple of comments but not to the stage that you guys have to go through things, breasts are just seen differently here!! lol

...one the reasons i dream of living in europe someday

lol i agree..i wish it was like that here in canada, but thats why were lactivists!

I do, too! I get that butterflies in my stomach, I dare someone to approach me negatively feeling every time DD signs "milk" to me when we're out. I have conversations stored away just in case, but I've only gotten stares and whispers so far. I cannot wait to be pregnant again so I can NIP around a big baby belly and watch the locals squirm! lol

breasts are just seen differently here!! -THIS makes me sad for the over sexualized attitude of America. I hope for a country that doesn't look twice at a BFing mom, but averts their eyes and shuns the woman with her breasts spilling out of her midriff baring shirt.

Yes, I loved "representing" back when I had a little one who still nursed in public!

But it seemed like the "cover-up" comments were few and far between -- and usually caught me off guard when they happened.

I hope you get a few chances to offer folks a cover-up for their own heads if they're disturbed by public breastfeeding! It's always a bummer to think of the best comments after it's way too late to make them.

I do to!

We were at the mall Friday night and I had my 6 week old in a buckle tei nursing like a champ. I was 1/2 shopping, 1/2 laughing at the faces of people who walked by but no one said a word. I dare them to.

When I see a woman NIP I'll try to catch her eye and give her a big smile and the thumbs up sign, but I see it so rarely.

yes

I love the opportunity to show others what is normal. It is important for us to do it openly and everywhere. Children that may never know the real way to feed a child can know this way. it plants a seed. nak and teaching homeschool sss

love it! i had someone make a rude remark about 'bf my grown kid' when dd3 was about 16 mos old and was fussing and tired while we were checking out at the store. my dd1 (she was about 15 then) told the woman to mind her own business! i was so happy to not only NIP and 'represent' but to also have my 15 yr old lactivist dd along to help reinforce me and my rights! i'm growing a whole herd of lactivists LOL

Yes! I am due in July with my second and that is one of the things I am looking forward to. I almost hope to get into a fight about it...almost. Just let someone try and tell me to cover up or leave a room!

I might be the odd one out..

no I don't get excited. To me its not really something to get excited about. Its just a normal part of being a mom to a nursing baby.
