Science and Nature books for young child?

Thread Starter
I have a bright 3 year old who loves to learn, and lately he's really been into science and nature. I'm looking for some simple (but not too simple, maybe K or 1st grade level?) books with pictures that I can read to him. He has a large vocabulary and great comprehension, but hasn't begun to read yet.

I'd also love recommendations for some good educational websites, especially with games he could play. And really any educational materials/games in general dealing with science and nature geared toward a young child.

Thanks for your help!

This isn't exactly a reading type book but more of an activity book for preschoolers. (we love it!) http://www.amazon.com/Science-Simple...8940944&sr=8-1

we have also enjoyed the "One Small Square" series (there a bunch of different ones-rainforest, tundra, night sky,etc- and these are more of a reading type of book)

I find that libraries are a BOON for this sort of book - but you have probably already thought of that...? I find that any factual book works fine, I just read about things at my child's level - so I simplify, and if they ask for more detail I can also give that.

My 3 year old boy loves Magic School Bus (videos and books), loves Bill Nye the Science guy videos, and any non-fiction book on topics such as Spiders, Cockroaches, etc. He keeps telling me about blood and germs that he learned on Bill Nye. There are also a couple of really good books about the body by Usborne he loves, and another we got at Costco which is basically the body dissected into it's different parts. Just having that stuff around is key, in our experience!
