french toast, waffles???

my LO is 15mo now & is really into dipping things. I was thinking of some agave. Is he to young do you think?? Maple syrup or is that to sugary/sweet?

What about applesauce?

We do maple syrup, honey, or plain yogurt with a little either of those whipped into it.

this is gross but my DD dips her pancakes in catsup (eeeew with me) but her Dad taught her.

I have always given mine a small amount of real maple syrup or honey at that age--but I like the pp's idea of applesauce too

Maybe purred frozen blueberries(or other fruit), mixed with a little syrup or honey and warmed up .

My kids love peannut butter and/or honey on their pancakes and waffles.

It depends. Real maple syrup, honey, homemade jam, defrosted frozen fruit that I put up in the summer. We don't eat bready breakfast foods often, so when we do it's a treat, so the sugar doesn't bother me much. They'll also gladly eat pancakes, etc., plain, with nothing at all, or with some fresh fruit on top when it's in season.

Stewed apples with cinnamon are nice on pancakes, too.

1/2 water 1/2 real maple syrup mixture. It makes it a little thinner (easier for dipping) and it makes it go a lot farther! It's also nice if they really like to dip and put a lot on, you can control a little bit their intake.

so many things!
  • butter and syrup
  • just syrup
  • just butter
  • apple butter (yum!)
  • pumpkin butter (doube yum!)
  • chocolate sauce (gross but this is usally when we have crepes for dessert)

Is it just applesauce or all fruit that you are not fond of? If you/he likes fruit, then in a pan, gently warm some berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries or a mix) to make a sauce. You can add a little brown sugar or maple syrup or honey to taste if they need sweetening.

We just use real maple syrup. A coin size dab is enough for a meal, so I don't worry about it too much. I eat mine plain, DH is traditional and likes his with butter and maple syrup.

Just apples - cooked - raw are OK. kind of weird huh?? I've always had that dislike. We both love all other fruit.

We mostly make quick breakfasts of hard-boiled eggs or yogurt, with fruit, milk, and tea. The kids sometimes eat cereal, maybe once a week. We also sometimes, maybe twice a week, have uncured bacon or sausages.

We don't ever eat waffles, because I don't have a waffle iron. We also don't eat toast much, because bread is such a treat around here that it's usually gone before it's even cool. But DH does make pancakes sometimes on Saturdays, and I'll make muffins or biscuits or stuff like that, every once in awhile. I only recently reintroduced grains to my own diet; I have ulcerative colitis and was on a diet that's very restrictive about carbohydrates, and the kids mostly eat what I eat.

Organic agave nectar.

In the land of truly odd: I eat sour cream with pancakes and waffles (it tastes best with relatively sweeter recipies).

Growing up i always put jelly on my pancakes/waffles/french toast. Now i also use syrup, and apple or pumpkin butter.
Greek yogurt and fruit is also good, and my husband always likes blueberry yogurt on his pancakes.

Sour cream mixed with a touch of jam (if you want it sweet) is lovely. I eat it with applesauce. Cream cheese whipped with some milk to thin. Both offer fat and protein to offset the carb loads.

PB is also a staple around here... often mixed together with an over-ripe banana to sweeten. Even cheddar cheese melted over is nice.

Personally, I don't go for agave at all - if I want pure sugar, I'll go for maple, it's far less processed. Pouring pure sugar over pure carbs is a recipe for disaster in our house.

I usually give my DD enough maple syrup to just cover the bottom of a toddler sized little bowl and heat it up for a second so it's thinner. She never even uses it all. (She likes to dip her cut up bites in it.)

When I was a kid my grandpa always made whipped cream with fresh cream and a tiny bit of sugar. It was so delicious on fresh waffles!

We have also had fruit, fruit syrups, and jam as a topping.

Cream cheese is good too!

One version of pancakes we make--use much less flour and put in cottage cheese, blend the batter until smooth, and fry into pancakes. It's not as sweet and has protein in it. Plus they are delicious, and I don't even like cottage cheese!

I like to throw some frozen berries into a pot with cream and reduce into a nice compote. Also sliced spiced apples sauted in butter!!!
