reason for the different treatment?

A thread might be:
--edited and left online
--closed to new posts but left online
--deleted entirely as if it never occurred

What are the criteria for deciding which treatment a thread might get? Thanks.

It depends on severity, how much of the thread is "salvageable" if the OP is still good we might just return the OP. This is a really dynamic medium so it is really hard to have every situation mapped out.

We have forty two mods and probably at least 70 children between them. Things aren't going to run like clockwork.

If you have a question about a situation you can always pm an admin or the moderator who is handling the thread (if that is apparent) and we can discuss it a bit more thoroughly.
